Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out friendly, accommodating staff, with the food close behind. The chunky chips are called crispy, tasty and phenomenal, and reviewers also name the 28 days steak, the mushroom soup and a hake with red lentil dahl that one diner found perfectly cooked. Several praise the atmosphere and the cool bar, and a few call the pricing fair or reasonable. The strongest criticism concerns management. Two reviewers report a manager or supervisor shouting at or belittling staff in front of customers, one calling it disgraceful and saying it lowered the tone, even as they described the food as decent and lovely. Other complaints are smaller. Brambles on a 2-for-1 cocktail deal were mostly blackcurrant syrup with very little alcohol, one corporate group found the food just average, and a group of diners could not be seated at one table. One reviewer notes that the kitchen catered to gluten and mild dairy intolerances on the Easter dinner menu.

“Visited here for lunch, had the curry, food was decent. What stood out most during my visit was how the manager treated the staff. They spoke to employees in a disrespectful and belittling manner, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere for both the staff and customers. On this occasion it was a male manager dark short hair, walked stooped and noticed he couldn’t give eye contact, overheard another customer call him a name sounding like Alister/Andrew - and having read other reviews clearly other customers have had similar experiences to myself. Won’t be back and will not be recommending, which is a shame as I live in the area. So unprofessional and upsetting for staff members who to me were doing a good job.”

“Went for food and drinks yesterday evening. Food was lovely no complaints. Bar staff couldn’t have been more friendly and accommodating. However I witnessed a female member of staff with dark hair ( I’d assume supervisor) shouting at staff and being extremely disrespectful towards them. Myself and my company were disgusted by this behaviour. Shouting that way at anyone is disgraceful however especially infront of customers is totally disgraceful. It really lowered the tone of the bar/restaurant. She needs to learn how to speak to people properly and learn respect towards other colleagues.”

“Fantastic place for any type of get together of any size. I was so impressed with the friendliness of all the staff. The Doyan is clean, modern and has easy access and comfortable seating throughout”

“A classic building with an upmarket feel inside, and very reasonably priced menu. Does have own parking lot: front and BACK. Fireplaces that work, soft seating, painting reproductions on walls. Staff eager to serve, feels like Culloden Hotel or Old Inn Crawfordsburn in terms of service.”

“We’ve been here a few times and it’s usually a great bar. I haven’t tried the food myself, but I’ve heard good things. The beers are solid, and we’ve had really good cocktails on previous visits. This time, we went on the Saturday of the Easter weekend for the 2-for-1 cocktail deal and ordered two brambles. Unfortunately, they were mostly blackcurrant syrup with very little alcohol, which was disappointing. It’s a shame, because our past experiences have been much better. It may have been due to the offer, but if that’s the case, it’s quite a letdown. That said, we’ve had enough good experiences here to know this isn’t the norm, and we’re looking forward to coming back and giving it another try.”
