About The Devenish Complex

The Devenish Complex is a bar and grill on Finaghy Road North in Finaghy, Belfast, run as a large entertainment venue with four function rooms. One of them is a newly refurbished Grand Ballroom, which the venue sets aside for weddings, gala balls and sporting events, so larger groups have space to gather. The restaurant and bar share the same building. The food menu runs to ribs and pizzas, including the Hot Sicilian, and cocktails are served at the bar. Evening events bring in a DJ and a live band. The venue stands beside Finaghy Rail Station.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out friendly, helpful staff and a lively atmosphere, with a live band and DJ at an engagement party and a night in the ballroom at Belfast Brunch both praised, along with food described as lovely and delicious. Cocktails split opinion: one reviewer calls them very reasonably priced, while another found them weak and tasting like cheap syrup. Complaints cluster around the bar and the kitchen. On a busy Saturday, one customer had to shout repeatedly to be served while later arrivals were served first. Others describe deafening music and front doors that squeal or let in drafts. One diner found the pizza greasy with an undercooked base, and the Sunday meal deal with a breaded mushroom starter and beef burger came out slightly dearer than ordering separately. Another reviewer found no oat or almond milk for a cup of tea. An attendee at a medium's show struggled to hear the readings over people moving to the bar. One reviewer closes with a shout-out to the attendant covering the women's toilets, saying she deserves a raise.

“sorry for the food quality review.i have always praised and promoted the devenish.as a taxi driver my positve experiences have reached many passengers however on father's day my sons(at my choice) brought me for lunch at 1pm.i had a rack of ribs which were both delicious and ample.unfortunatly they gave me food poisoning. I contacted the restaurant to inform them in case others encountered the same problem.the lady ,I spoke to told me Fiona the manager would ring me back.as it is now 16:20 Monday and I have lost a day's work. I do nt believe i am getting a phone call.all said and done i will still recommend the devenish.damien”

“Terrible experience here at the Belfast “Brunch Co”. Firstly, £25 general admission to Brunch Co includes no brunch! In fact there was no food available anywhere! Drinks : poor selection of drinks, the white wine was so bad it tasted like pizza! Basically, the cheapest wine they can find and sell at an extortionate price DJs/Hosts : basically a few “predatory” blokes who walk round finding the women with the lowest cut tops and ignoring everyone else. There was a bride to be who was marrying another woman in the venue and he was just plain rude to her in front of the whole room! Environmental impact : how much throw away plastic this venue generates is disgusting. Almost zero reusable glasses, Prosecco for mum was offered in a plastic pint pot! Then they give everyone a plastic inflatable microphone (most of which were on the floor before end of the session). If you want a cheap and trashy hen party, go here! But I’d advise everyone to steer clear of this place!”

“The staff are severely undertrained, and the 9-pound cocktails are not worth the price because they have almost no alcohol in them and taste almost entirely like cheap syrup. On a busy Saturday, staffing was proficient yet ignorant; you often have to wait over 20 minutes and shout two or three times before you get served. We were looked at several times yet ignored and the bartender served people knowing we were first, he had to be told twice by others that we were next. I felt that this played a part as everyone who was from here got served with no hassle. I work in hospitality as well so I don’t wanna make them feel rush but the way they did is just ignore me and keep serving other customers who come after me and let me stand there for ages , this is really unprofessional and bad. It's truly disappointing to see this happen to a long-established bar; I hope this kind of employee doesn't ruin the bar. Plus the music is too loud out of standard literally.”

“This is a great bar restaurant with lovely friendly staff . They do need to start catering for customers who cannot drink normal milk. They had no Oat Milk, Almond Milk or other for Lactose intolerant customers, which is quite annoying when all you wanted was a simple cup of tea..”

“Based on my personal experience during my first visit, the venue is not family friendly with restaurant and bar colocated. Deals need to be better. Food overall was simply fine. The Sunday meal deal only saves money with the pricier starters and mains and at that it's less than a 10% saving; in fact the breaded mushroom starter and beef burger main costs 5p more using the deal versus buying them without the meal deal. The value looks better on the menu than it actually is. Apart from the pizza, everything else was fine. Although wet wipes should be provided if ribs or wings are ordered. The pizza itself was a let down; greasy, overloaded with semolina, and the base was undercooked. Any competent pizza chef checks the underside as it cooks and while the oven temperature was clearly high enough on top, the base hadn’t come up to temperature. If it had gone in any earlier, parts of the dough would have been raw. The football was showing on multiple TVs, which is great for fans, but the atmosphere suffered. A few customers were using explicit language throughout the match, making it far from ideal for families with children.”
