Customer Review Summary

Apple pie is the clear draw, with reviewers describing the spiced apple pie served with hot custard as the reason they came, and one visitor who expected a letdown calling it the best they have had. Close behind are the scone with clotted cream and jam, described as light and fluffy, and the sausage roll. A buttery, crumbly pastry also gets mention. Cooked breakfasts such as bacon, hash browns and pancakes with maple syrup, and a chicken pesto baguette, also earn praise, along with a good coffee and a smooth latte. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and welcoming, including toward a dog and a party of eleven, and service is described as quick even when busy. The caveat is a lukewarm review that found the breakfast bap and a full English without bacon poor value, and the cinnamon bun dry. One reviewer also notes there is no kids menu, and another queued before getting a table. One diner even gave their dog a Cumberland sausage that vanished in seconds.

“Me and the girls came to get some breakfast on our girls holiday in the lake District. I chose this bakery as I have only had bad apple pie in the past and I thought an apple pie bakery is the best I'm going to get it. So I thought I'd give it one last try... Ascended...I went to heaven! It was gold on my tounge. I went in with low expectations and came out with a whole new view. Dramatic, I am not. If you think apple pie is a bad dessert, go to this cafe. Me and the girls we all love it and had it with hot custard. It's been months and I'm still thinking about it. Don't miss this bakery when visiting the lake District. It really contributed to an amazing trip. Also the staff are very welcoming. We all felt comfortable here and had a great time.”

“Very professional and friendly staff at the dining area. Clean and very helpful staff. We were 11 guests and well treated. We ended up ordering more.”

“It was ok - nothing to shout about. I don't think there was the value (breakfast bap - £9, full English (no bacon!) £12. My cinnamon bun (£5) was dry. BUT the coffee was good! Id certainly try other places before going back again.”

“We didn’t have much time and were in a bit of a hurry, but we still managed to try the apple pie with custard — and it was lovely! The apple pie had great flavours, not too sweet and it paired beautifully with the custard. The staff were friendly, and the service was quick and efficient.”
