Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the homemade steak and ale pie, praised for its full flavour and delightful pastry, with fish and chips, bread and butter pudding, a chicken dish with leeks and a tuna jacket potato also mentioned. Close behind are generous nachos that one reviewer says could pass as a main course, plus daily specials and gluten free desserts. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly, and several reviewers say their dogs, including a group of four, were made welcome. The local ale named after the pub gets a mention too. The main complaint concerns the small bar area, where one reviewer found it impossible to get a seat in busy periods, harder still with a large dog. The outdoor area has plenty of seating but the same reviewer found it very cold in winter and wanted heaters, while the roaring fire was only seen through the window. One reviewer suggests following the pub's own website postcode rather than the Google maps one, which leads down a narrow road to a private car park.

“We called ahead looking for somewhere to stop over in our campervan for the night and enjoy a good dinner. Right from the first conversation, the service was fantastic when we asked if overnight parking was permitted. We had a delicious meal in the bar, the homemade steak and ale pie, fish and chips, and bread and butter pudding were all spot on! The local ale, Swan With Two Nicks, was tremendous. Beyond the wonderful food and drink, what truly made our stay was the warm welcome from the landlord, landlady, and all the staff. We couldn't have been happier. Please note that this is not a regular campervan stopover, so calling ahead to check availability and suitability is essential. If you're lucky enough to get the go-ahead, you won't be disappointed. Please support local pubs like this, they really deserve it!”

“Staying at the b&b next door for a couple of nights, we ate dinner twice during our stay, we sat outside in the beer garden on both nights, absolutely brilliant menu with daily specials, very tasty pub grub.”

“Good menu, good selection at the bar, friendly staff, and plenty of seating inside and out. We were served quite quickly but it was quiet at the time. It's just a short walk to/from Dunham Massey so easy to access if you're vising there.”
