About DOS Amigos Aberdeen

DOS Amigos Aberdeen is a Spanish restaurant on Justice Mill Ln in Aberdeen city centre, just off a main street, with a Spanish-themed dining room. The menu combines Spanish and Mexican cooking, led by a chef with Canary Islands experience. Tapas dishes are ordered and shared between diners, and the paella comes in a chicken and chorizo version. On the Mexican side, the kitchen covers steak tacos and a range of Mexican classics. Drinks follow the same split, with Spanish and Mexican beers and wines, cocktails and mocktails, soft drinks and hot beverages. The bar also makes its sangria in-house.

Customer Review Summary

Tapas draw the most praise, with diners describing the small plates as flavoursome and moreish, and one couple sharing six dishes, calamari among them. Close behind are a chicken and chorizo paella and steak tacos, both rated highly by one diner, and nachos one visitor called the best they had ever had. Opinion splits on the rest. Another reviewer found the paella incredibly salty and said staff replied only "ok" when told, while a third found the tapas portions tiny. The burritos draw the sharpest criticism: one steak burrito arrived overcooked and piping hot, as if microwaved, and another reviewer called the burritos sub par. Two reviewers say the food is more Tex Mex than authentic Mexican, and one found the dining room dated and the toilets rough. Staff are mostly described as friendly and attentive, though one diner could barely hear the quiet servers. One couple celebrating their anniversary were given free shots, including a non-alcoholic one for the driver.

“We had an excellent time at Dos Amigos. All the staff were outstanding, a real credit to the restaurant and what's more it was our 7year wedding anniversary and we were seated in a lovely wee corner, all waiting staff and especially the lady in the black suit.. Amazing. Dos Amigos should be grateful to these staff for representing them so well. The food was also excellent and really good value. We also loved the wee. Free. Shots to celebrate our anniversary.. Husband also got a non alcoholic one since he was driving... Truly above and beyond. If we were local we would be regular and happy customers. “Food looked amazing but it was sadly disappointing. Not authentic Mexican more Tex Mex.”

“I'm really puzzled as to why this place has such glowing reviews..... I appreciate Aberdeen hasn't got many places to eat but come on.... It's not a mexican. It's more Spanish. But it's not Spanish. I feel this place has a real lack of proper identity. The food is ok. Not amazing. The burritos are sub par and 10000x worse than Fresh Mex. The tapas stuff is OK but the portions are tiny. The wine is bog standard as are the cocktails. The service not great.... Almost all the servers were so quiet we couldn't hear them, and upon asking for a spicy margarita I was asked if I'd rather a mojito instead... What?.... No. I asked for a spicy margarita. So so strange. It was all rather expensive too, and we won't be back sadly.”

“The tapas dishes were very tasty, however the paella was incredibly salty - i couldn't finish it due to this. I mentioned this to the staff which responded with 'ok'. The staff standing next to your table at the entrance waiting for guests is a bit too much.”

“We chanced getting a reservation on the Friday before Valentine's Day with only 1h30m notice, and were delighted that they could fit us in! Lovely menu - my husband I went for the tapas and shared 6 dishes between us, all absolutely incredible. Flavoursome and moreish. Having not eaten calamari since my teens, I decided to brave it and did not regret a thing! Staff were all friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend and look forward to returning.”
