Quick info
About Au Cheval
Au Cheval is a New American restaurant set inside a narrow New York alley, pairing leather booths and a zinc bar with creative American fare. Much of its character comes from a menu that spans 103 mains across a wide price range, letting the kitchen move between bar snacks and more composed plates without losing its casual, tavern-like frame. The signature Double Cheeseburger with Bacon and Egg anchors the savory side, while Glazed Chicken Wings with Cilantro offer a shareable starter, and Mille Feuille closes meals as a layered pastry option. Because the room is compact and the bar draws steady traffic, booking ahead is advised for prime evening tables.

Customer Review Summary
Diners consistently single out the burger as the standout draw, with many calling it one of the best they have had, praising its juicy, perfectly cooked patties and rich flavor. Close behind, the mac and cheese earns repeated praise for being creamy and flavorful, while the chocolate cream pie and mille-feuille are frequently highlighted as excellent desserts. Several reviewers also note the lively, energetic atmosphere and the friendly, organized service, with one server described as making the entire night feel special. A few note trade-offs: one found the burger too rich and buttery after the first bite, another called the bologna sandwich overly salty and fatty, and a couple mention cramped seating or a confusing gelato pricing incident where the listed price did not match the per-scoop charge.

“Service here is top notch, The salads are both amazing and the burger that only Au chuval makes is really amazing. All the servers that we’ve had have been super friendly and helpful. The drinks are great too, just like the au chuval in Chicago”

“Au Cheval NY absolutely deserves the hype 🍔🔥 Easily one of the Top 5 burgers in the world for me. Soo tasty, juicy, rich, and perfectly cooked. Every bite was insane. You can tell why people wait for it. The place was super busy but the service still stayed good and organized, which made the experience even better. Great energy inside too — lively, loud, and full of people enjoying amazing food. And the mac & cheese… wow. Creamy, flavorful, super tasty, and definitely not just a side dish. A must-visit spot if you love burgers.”
