About 71Above
71Above is a high-end modern American restaurant, bar, and lounge on the 71st floor at 633 W 5th St in Los Angeles, where panoramic views anchor the experience. The kitchen focuses on composed plates rather than bar snacks, and the setting is built around the skyline. The Charred Red Beet Steak and the Farm Egg are two of the most popular dishes, and the Illanka Chocolate Semifreddo rounds out the menu as a signature dessert. Reservations are advised, especially for tables positioned to take in the views.

Customer Review Summary
Diners overwhelmingly single out the panoramic downtown Los Angeles views as the defining draw, with window tables repeatedly described as magnificent and breathtaking. The three course set menu is frequently mentioned, and specific dishes praised include the tuna, the pasta, the octopus, the New York strip, the barramundi, and the A5+ Japanese Wagyu, which one reviewer called melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Service is consistently described as attentive and professional, with several guests noting staff proactively moved them to window seats or checked in throughout the meal. A few reviewers flag uneven execution: one found the potato alongside the Wagyu overly salty, another said both the Blueberry Pavlova and the Ilanka Chocolate Semifreddo were overpowered by an extremely sour lime component, and a third reported tough octopus and an ordinary ribeye. One reviewer noted crumbs left on the table and utensils arriving late. Several suggest making reservations in advance, particularly for window seating.

“Took my husband for his Birthday dinner here. To say, Carl B was outstanding! His level of hospitality and attention was above and beyond. He explained in great detail about the 3 course meal and what pairs great with it. We loved every second of it. The food was delicious, the bread and butter was so good. We definitely recommend. Make reservations, we gor window seats and the view was magnificent.”

“The restaurant is of decent quality, but it’s hard to call it truly iconic. There is definitely room for improvement in terms of service: crumbs were not cleared from the table, utensils were brought late, and the food arrived before the cutlery. The octopus was somewhat tough — I would have preferred a more delicate preparation. The ribeye steak was quite ordinary, nothing special. The atmosphere is pleasant overall. It’s worth visiting once, especially if you’re a tourist in Los Angeles.”

“Almost perfect dinner. 3 course set menu. Meat quality was not perfect, the rest of the food was great. …”

“My son and I were in town for the IMTA convention and this restaurant was in walking distance from our hotel. So I made last minute reservations on Open Table and am so glad I did! From the moment we arrived, we felt taken care of. We were greeted in the lobby to confirm our reservation. Then escorted through two separate elevators to reach the restaurant which towered over most buildings. Initially there weren’t any window tables available which was fine with us. We were grateful just to have a last minute reservation. However a window seat opened up halfway through our experience and our server moved us to the table without us even asking. He was always making sure we were having the best experience possible. The service, view and restaurant ambiance were impeccable as was the food! My son and I had the three course experience but also added additional deserts and apps just to try more things. For the first course my son chose the tuna ….which he said was incredibly fresh and the best thing that has ever touched his pallet 😂. I had the pasta and it was incredible. Perfect balance of flavors. It was the best pasta I’ve had in a long time. Then we also shared the octopus which was beautifully plated And delicious but we liked the other two better. Then I had the barramundi and my son had the New York strip. Both were excellent. For dessert, we struggled to decide…. We ended up trying the strawberry, Blueberry, Chocolate dessert, As well as the cheese plate. All incredibly different and good for different reasons. Do you want something light, I would go with a strawberry, Unique flavors blueberry or the chocolate. Overall, it was a very wonderful experience and the best restaurant of our whole trip! Well, done!”
