About Maru Coffee
Maru Coffee is a hip, minimalist coffee shop in a large, industrial space in Downtown Los Angeles, with plenty of room for lingering. Much of its character comes from the open, airy layout that invites guests to settle in and stay. The Cream Top is a popular drink, and the Matcha Latte anchors the menu alongside a selection of pastries. The setting works well for laptop work or casual meetups, with seating spread throughout the room.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers consistently single out the Cream Top drinks as the standout order, calling the cream top Americano well balanced and easy to drink, the cream smooth without being overly sweet, and the iced breve macchiato a favorite for its rich coffee aroma paired with cream. Matcha also draws high praise, with the matcha latte and unsweetened iced matcha described as high quality, perfectly made, rich and fresh rather than watered down. The cortado, espresso, and flat white earn praise for smooth texture and bright, fruity notes, and one reviewer notes the flat white is pulled on a custom Mavam setup with an Ethiopia and Colombia blend. Pastries also stand out, with the Sugarbloom croissants called flaky and light with a strawberry jam style filling. The minimalist, clean interior and calm atmosphere are frequently mentioned as a peaceful escape. On the downside, multiple reviewers note the space gets crowded and can feel tight, parking can be difficult with limited lot availability, and the minimalist exterior is easy to miss from the street. Several suggest arriving prepared for a line, though many add that it usually moves quickly.

“Stopped by Maru for a cortado and it was honestly one of the best I've had in LA. They were pulling their Sanmi Blend, and everything about it felt dialed in. The texture was incredibly smooth, the temperature was perfect, and the notes …”

“Had heard about this place forever ago and finally got to try it, and I really liked it! The vibe is minimalist Japanese aesthetic: clean, peaceful, calming. The workers were super kind and not pretentious at all (which honestly matters, iykyk). Got an espresso and a matcha with almond milk and both were SO good. High quality, balanced, delicious. Definitely a spot I’d come back to.”

“Sleek yet cas spot with minimalist decor, great coffee, good food, and warm and efficient staff. They also have some great wares for sale that would make good gifts for someone who appreciates good design. Kid friendly. When we were there the music was some lovely Erik Satie, then some quiet Bill Evan’s which was all perfect for 3 pm on a Saturday afternoon downtown”

“Great bakery items and drinks. They know how to make matcha lattes well. Very busy inside but the service is nice. May be difficult to find parking and the exterior of the establishment is very minimalistic. Almost missed it driving by.”
