About Parlormade Scone House
Parlormade Scone House is a cafe in York, set in a 15th-century timber-framed Tudor building on the Shambles, with its entrance on Little Shambles. The menu is built around artisan scones, and the flavours change with the seasons. Scones come warm with clotted cream and strawberry jam, or with a choice of chutneys and other jams. The cheese and chive scone is served with chutney and cream cheese, and the blueberry and lemon scone covers the sweet side. Loose-leaf teas, including Yorkshire tea, sit alongside hot chocolate. Tarts, cakes and other bakery items are also sold. The building is small, with a seating area inside, and a queue to eat in forms at busy times.

Customer Review Summary
Scones are what reviewers return for, described as crumbly, crispy outside and soft inside, and served warm with clotted cream and jam. The cheese and chive scone with apple chutney and cream cheese is singled out more than once, and the blueberry and lemon gets a specific recommendation. Close behind are the loose-leaf teas, including Yorkshire tea, and the hot chocolate. Several mention the 15th-century timber-framed building as quaint and atmospheric, and describe the staff as friendly and polite. Flavours change, which prompts one reviewer to say you have to go back more than once, and another visited twice in two days. The caveats are specific. One diner ordered flavoured scones and could not taste either flavour. Another found the lemon and blueberry scone and the lemon curd short on lemon, with a runny curd, and says they were never shown the seasonal menu that other tables were given, so they missed the apple cinnamon scone. One reviewer also notes a queue to eat in and took scones home instead.

“Right in the heart of Shambles. Looks small but has a good seating area. Want to have a good breakfast in the morning, do go here and try their fresh bakery items. Didn’t have enough time or I would have visited them again. Great service by the staff too”

“10/10 for the scones at this shop! I think this place truly lives up to its reputation. My friend said that if you're in York and don't eat the scones here, you haven't really been to York. So I stopped by to buy some. The price is very cheap tho. There was a queue to eat in by the way, so I bought them to take home instead. The staff were efficient, polite, and courteous. They have scones, tarts, cakes, and many other things. After tasting their fruit scone, I was amazed. The flavor is unique and unlike anywhere else. It pairs perfectly with the strawberry flavor. Recommend to visit☺️”

“Lovely little tea and scone house in a tudor building. Fresh hot tea and a variety of differently-flavoured warm scones with clotted cream, strawberry jam or a choice of various chutneys and other jams. Quaint and atmospheric - located in a small, old tudor building! Recommended.”

“I absolutely love the scones at this place, they’re the best I’ve ever had. They’re crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and served warm. I can honestly say they’re the most delicious scones I’ve ever tasted. The staff are lovely and friendly, and the atmosphere is great. The café is also beautifully and charmingly decorated.”
