  “We popped in tonight after being let down by a local Bistro having traveled from Lancaster. Even though they were fully booked they were happy to accommodate us and we weren’t disappointed. The service was excellent. The pizza’s are as good as you will ever have. The wood fired oven makes a big difference to the flavours and our pizza’s were outstanding. Lots of toppings and big hearty pizza. 10/10!”

  “We were visiting the area from Buckinghamshire and couldn’t believe our luck when we found The Wood Oven. We love pizza and have eaten our fair share over the years, and this is right up there with the best. The dough was perfectly crisp and light, with toppings that were fresh, generous and really well balanced. We also loved the selection of locally brewed beers and lagers, and the staff were warm, welcoming and more than happy to accommodate us. The only downside is that we live 200 miles away—otherwise we’d be here every week!”

  “One of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. You’ll read the reviews and ask yourself can it really be that good?? Yes, yes it is! You definitely want to try this place! The flavours are awesome, dough is crisp and not too doughy, staff are friendly and atmosphere is great. Also got a bonus village cricket match to watch whilst I ate it (sadly not guaranteed)”

  “OMG stunning pizzas. I don't often give anywhere 5 stars but this was on another level. Make sure you book as it was full on a Wednesday night. Staff were so nice and whole place had a lovely vibe. Fantastic value for money. Really can't wait till I can come back”

  “Wow wow wow! One of the best pizzas I’ve had. The choices of toppings is amazing too. Some original and some different types. Everything about this place is great, from the food, atmosphere and the staff. Already planning when we can come back to Wylam just so we can go here again!”

  “Went in and ordered take out. The service was two young types flirting away with each other which was bizarre. No space to wait for take out. The pizza base is good and the set up looks promising. The cheese on the pizzas was similar to kebab shop pizza cheese which was a huge disappointment. Pretty average and you’d be better off nipping to Ovingham and getting pizza from the bridge end inn.”

  “Visited The Wood Oven recently. The food itself was very good—fresh, well cooked, and clearly made with quality ingredients. No complaints at all on that side. However, the service was quite disappointing and made us feel uncomfortable. We noticed that staff were engaging warmly with other tables—checking in, asking how the food was, and being attentive. Unfortunately, our table didn’t receive the same level of service. We were barely checked on and had very little interaction throughout the visit. Given the restaurant’s reputation for friendly service, this difference was quite noticeable and didn’t feel right. It may not have been intentional, but it did feel like we were being overlooked compared to others around us. Good hospitality should be consistent for everyone. Hopefully this is something the team reflects on, as the food deserves service to match.”

  “They didn’t have any tables available which is fine since the place is small but also couldn’t even offer to make a pizza to takeaway and said their takeaway pizzas were sold out for the evening. Booking in a few days in advance is apparently a must. Would recommend adding to your Google info. Edit to reply to owner: I have given 1 star review on food as yes you’re right I haven’t eaten here to know, however service I have also given 1 star as if it’s so essential to book and the staff look at you like you’re crazy expecting to walk into a restaurant and sit to eat food straight away without a booking; then you should at least have this mentioned somewhere on Google for people who have never been before. People travel far to come here and from now reading the reviews I don’t seem to be the only one who had this problem. I hope you’ll find this feedback helpful, we are not mind readers unfortunately and it’s a long trip out for some!”
