About Central Oven & Shaker
Central Oven & Shaker is a pizza restaurant in Newcastle Upon Tyne, on Neville St, set in an industrial-style room. Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the friendly, attentive service, with servers and bar staff repeatedly described as funny, attentive and quick to recommend items. The food draws close praise: the Neapolitan cheese pizza with its beautifully cooked crust, mac and cheese arriving bubbling in a hot skillet, and halloumi fries with tomato jam. Others mention a Caesar salad, lunch sandwiches, a kids' meal described as excellent value, and shared small plates that arrived piping hot. Bottomless brunch, espresso martinis and Sweet Shop themed cocktails also earn mentions, and one reviewer calls the coffee excellent. One reviewer calls it the best pizza they have eaten. The caveats are specific. One diner describes food arriving after tables that came later, poor coordination between staff, and leaving before dessert, with one employee offering a refund that a colleague never processed. Another says a loud Christmas table upstairs playing games made conversation across the table difficult. Another wishes they had arrived ten minutes later for the cocktail deal.

“Took the kids here during the holidays and couldn’t have been more impressed. The kids’ meal was excellent value, and the sandwiches on the lunch menu were absolutely unreal — fantastic quality and great value for money. A special mention has to go to Jake, who was brilliant from start to finish. He kept the bairns entertained, was incredibly attentive, and constantly made sure that all the food and drinks were spot on. His friendly, attentive and genuinely excellent customer service really made the experience for us. An absolute credit to the place. Fantastic food, great value and outstanding service from Jake. 10/10 — we’ll definitely be back!”

“Absolutely love this place! It’s hands down the best pizza I have ever eaten, and I’ve tried it in many different places. The staff is super friendly yet very professional. Great atmosphere and excellent coffee. Highly recommended!”

“Pizza was not bad but service didn't end up the same. At the beginning, we asked for their recommendations and all was fine but food was served too late and even after the tables that arrived after us. Coordination between staff is terrible. We were completely unhappy and left without waiting the desserts order. We paid for it. One employee offered refund for dessert but other didn't come to do the action. So I don't recommend this spot if your nerves are strong as iron.”

“Had an amazing time at bottomless brunch! The service was fantastic from start to finish, with everyone making sure our drinks were topped up and we had everything we needed. A special mention to Jake, who was on his job trial. He did an amazing job, was really attentive, friendly, and you’d never have guessed he was only on a trial. Also, Fin was funny and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The atmosphere was brilliant, and we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend!”

“We stopped by Oven & Shaker in Newcastle for a quick lunch and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, with a modern feel that made it a great spot for a casual meal with friends or family. Fair warning: our order was very cheese-heavy, but everything hit the spot. We started with the classic Neapolitan cheese pizza, which had a beautifully cooked crust and plenty of flavour. The mac and cheese arrived bubbling away in a hot skillet and was exactly the kind of rich, comforting dish you'd want. The halloumi fries were a highlight, especially with the tomato jam, which added a nice sweet and tangy kick. We also ordered a pasta dish that stayed true to the cheese theme and was just as enjoyable. Overall, Oven & Shaker served up great comfort food in a stylish setting, backed by friendly, attentive service. If you're in Newcastle and after a relaxed place with good food and drinks, it's definitely worth checking out.”
