About Rudy's Pizza Napoletana - Newcastle Upon Tyne

Rudy's Pizza Napoletana is a pizza restaurant in Newcastle Upon Tyne, at 27-31 Grey St, in former bank-style premises with exposed concrete, wood and eclectic furniture. The dining room is arranged around the kitchen. A pizza bar counter gives solo diners a place to sit, and tables beside the kitchen let guests watch the team work. The menu includes a triple pepperoni pizza with a hot honey drizzle, the Salsiccia and a veggie 'nduja ortolana. Vegans have one dedicated pizza and a create-your-own option. Cocktails are served at the bar. Walk-ins without a booking may have to wait to be seated.

Customer Review Summary

Pizza is the draw, with reviewers praising big, fresh pies such as the triple pepperoni with hot honey drizzle and the veggie 'nduja ortolana, and a couple note that the size means one pizza goes a long way. Close behind is friendly, quick service, with one manager singled out as helpful. Also mentioned are the creamy, fresh stracciatella, the garlic aioli, cocktails at the bar and a tiramisu served in a small glass. Noise is the most repeated complaint. One diner at a crowded early December table had to shout to be heard, and another misheard the server and was handed the bill when they wanted dessert. Both say they would return at a quieter time. One reviewer found a burned crust with little cheese and a salad of bitter lettuce. A vegan diner notes only one vegan option, which makes building their own costly. One delivery order labelled Salsiccia arrived as a completely different pizza, and the person who answered the phone offered no apology.

“Been here many times, food always great. Minor negative is there is only 1 vegan option on the menu so to create your own becomes expensive my vegan create your own became more expensive than 1 with 3 types of meat. Perhaps a better idea would be a set price to create your own.”

“Fantastic experience at Rudy’s Newcastle. We are on holiday from Scotland and chose to celebrate our anniversary and our son’s 15th birthday with you. You made us feel so special and the food was outstanding. I am fussy when I eat out as food and service needs to be exceptional - well you smashed it right out the park without being overbearing. Thank you guys - especially Mark and Martha. See you next time”

“The rooood is gooood, my mate was planting pebbles in his shorts as he recommended this place and I was excited yet dubious. Alas there is nothing to be concerned about my lads and lasses as the pizza is blumming dynamite and the staff are lush. They act like the old 'im walking ere' kinda family vibes and its runs like a smooth operator.Pizza was unreal and highly digestible . Happy days and highly recommended.”

“Amazing pizza!! I ordered the veggie 'nduja ortolana. It was really well made and the flavours worked well together. The staff were really friendly, especially the man with the American accent who greeted us at the entrance (sorry we didn't catch your name) The restaurant had a nice atmosphere but it was a little bit too loud at some points. We even misheard the server who asked if we wanted the bill. My friend thought he asked if everything was alright. We actually wanted to order dessert but had the bill handed to us instead. I would definitely come here again but maybe during the daytime hours.”

“Delicious food in a vibrant restaurant, and quick service with a smile. The stracciatella was creamy and fresh, and garlic aioli was decadent. Well worth the price and wood go there again.”
