About The Café at Christ Church - the cafe is inside the church

The Café at Christ Church is a cafe on Christ Church Jubilee Square in Woking, set inside a church building, so breakfast, lunch and cake are served within the church interior. The food menu is small and simple, with jacket potatoes served alongside homemade coleslaw and soup among the savoury choices. An English breakfast is on offer for the morning meal. The counter holds cakes and pastries, including chocolate cake, and drinks include leaf tea and coffee. Tables and chairs are the standard seating, and sofas are usually available too.

Customer Review Summary

Jacket potatoes are what reviewers mention most, with one calling them huge and another missing the homemade coleslaw that once came on the side. Close behind are the toasties, the soups described as fantastic and full of flavour, the cakes, the chocolate cake, a strong earl grey and the coffee, though one partner didn't like his coffee at all. Many praise the friendly, polite staff, and one describes an English breakfast served inside the church. Others point to the interior as pretty and unique, and a buzzy room where people can chat without yelling. The caveats come mostly from the post-renovation visits. Two reviewers say the place has slipped: the board outside advertises food that isn't available, the curries and rice dishes are gone, and the choice is very limited. One regular found the staff less pleasant, said the internet was not working, and was told the toilet was out of order. That reviewer found few pastries on the counter and went to Pret a Manger instead. One reviewer suggests a way to clear tables for incoming guests.

“On a whim I went into this place because the library was full, and I wanted to avoid the usual coffee chains. The interior is gorgeous, the food/drink is reasonably priced (though on the upper end) but the service I got was so lovely. I asked a staff about plug sockets and where I could sit to least be an inconvenience and they went above and beyond!”

“Unfortunately this place has gone downhill since undergoing renovations. They keep advertising food on the board outside that is not even available! What happened to the delicious curry’s, rice dishes and various other amazing soups. Very limited choice and not presented as well as before. No more lovely touches on side of jacket potato’s like homemade coleslaw. I’m so dissapointed. I used to go 1 or 2 times a week but now I only go once a month if that. I hope they get a better chef soon!”

“Lovely place with friendly staff. The food menu is fairly small, but there’s always lots of cakes, great coffee and a warm smile!”

“Often pay a visit after work, around 10am. Find the employees less and less pleasant. No Internet available (they used to have a guest account available before their renovation. Last visit, I asked for their password but been told internet was not working). Last week after ordering I asked to access the toilet and been told it was not working (I was also looked at as if toilet access was a privilege reserved to some). Very few pastries on the counter... That day, I drank my coffee as quick as I could, went across to Pret a Manger, much less snooty, cheaper and with good Internet.”

“Lovely cafe with plenty of sitting and delicious food. We recently discovered this cafe and visiting almost every Saturday for brunch after our library rhyme time session with our little one. Staff is friendly and food is reasonably priced. Highly recommended this cafe in Woking. And this cafe is temporary closed from 2 March till September for renovations.”
