Quick info
About The Greave Dunning
The Greave Dunning is a pub on Greasby Rd in Wirral that welcomes dogs throughout, including the dining area, so owners can eat a meal with their dog. The restaurant area is separate from the bar, and guests can sit at either the bar or a table. The food menu includes fish pie and fish and chips, and breakfast is served with eggs Benedict on the list. A set 3-course lunch menu runs as well. Cask beers are on offer at the bar alongside a range of other drinks. Orders go through the bar, or guests can order from the table by scanning an app. A private space is used for family events and groups.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the staff, describing them as friendly, welcoming and going above and beyond, with a relaxed atmosphere that suits family events in the private space. Food praise centers on eggs Benedict at breakfast, nachos, sticky toffee pudding and a three course set lunch called great value, while one reviewer calls the food usual pub fare. The complaints are about the kitchen and the ordering. One regular found the fish pie and the lasagne served in dishes less than half full, others report pale, undercooked chips and food that was not very hot, and one delivery of haddock and chips arrived cold and wet. Ordering from the table by app confused one party, who queued at the bar instead. Two reviewers object to dogs in the dining area, one citing continual barking and an off duty staff member swearing near a small child. One diner who raised the undercooked chips with a staff member got only a brief apology before he walked away.

“Lovely atmosphere, between posh and scally, just right. Barpersons are great. Dogs are allowed. Can sit at the bar or at the table. Everyone warmly welcomed. Not too expensive and a good range of drinks. Food is your usual pub food.”

“Yes the food was great but we found trying to use online ordering from the table wasconfusing. So had to queue at the bar for 10 minutes to order and wait another 25 minutes for food served. The place was mobbed with large groups who were only drinking but sitting at tables in the dining area that were booked for diners later. Suggest you return to previous practice having full waiter service who take your order for food and drink and serve both to the table. After all it is the restaurant area of the pub from where you make significant income Also the diners deserve a little privacy from the bar area. Iain”

“We love the Greave and have had so many special family events here. Staff go above and beyond it is so relaxed and welcoming. The private space is perfect and we can't say enough good things about this place and the food is always delicious. Jon, Ben, Mary and the team are fantastic. They literally are the best!”

“Great place for breakfast - get yourself in to try it. The food (eggs Benedict) was so nice and we keep coming back for more. Mary who served us is so bubbly and welcoming. The staff are always great and we really enjoy the Greave Dunning. Thanks”

“We frequently visit the greaves dunning and so do my family, the staff are brilliant the atmosphere is too, the service is super efficient, the food is well prepared and cooked…but, the portion size is ridiculous! I’m not a greed b, but the portions I’ve recently been served have been poor, recently I had the fish pie, served in a 4” x 6” dish, it was filled less than half way, and when you take out the layer of potato topping there was barely a 1/4” of filling, then again today, I ordered the lasagne, same dish but less than a 1/3rd full, my wife wanted me to complain, but it’s Valentine’s Day the place is busy and what can I say to the waiter? I want more?? The quality of the food was lovely the portion size was awful, I’d be ashamed to serve it if I was the chef it was a very measly portion. It seems they are rationing the amount of food you get, my advice is if that’s the case use smaller dishes to make it look more! The place is great otherwise”
