About Barley Mow Inn

Barley Mow Inn is a thatched-roof country pub in Wimborne, on Long Ln, and it opens daily. Dogs have a menu of their own, so owners can bring them along and everyone gets something to eat. Inside, an open fire burns with tables set beside it. The kitchen serves fish and chips in crispy batter, and Sunday lunch comes as a roast. The pies include chestnut, mushroom and thyme, and steak and ale, each served with fries. The bar pours locally brewed ales.

Customer Review Summary

Fish and chips draws the most praise, with reviewers describing crispy batter and fresh, flaky fish, and chips crispy outside and fluffy inside. Close behind are the Sunday roasts, which one reviewer calls among the best pub roasts they have had, and the pies, including chestnut, mushroom and thyme and steak and ale, served with fries reviewers enjoyed. A Nutella cheesecake and a ploughman's with huge portions also earn mentions. The friendly, welcoming staff come up repeatedly, and one dog owner mentions a treat and a dog menu. Open fires and a lovely beer garden add to the atmosphere. The main caveats are cost and portions of one item: a couple of reviewers call it a bit pricey, one nearly balked at the ploughman's price before finding it worthwhile, and one wanted more vegetables with the roast. Reviewers also describe sitting outside while thatchers worked on the roof, singing along to their tunes.

“The food was excellent. We nearly got put off by the price of the ploughman’s at £17 but glad we didn’t. It was well worth the money. Huge portions and excellent variety of food. Top notch.”

“Amazing, friendly service from all bar and waiting staff. Beautiful garden, and beautiful location. Came here for a Sunday roast and it was one of the best pub roasts I've had. Highly recommend a visit.”

“Wow just wow, we have lived in Colehill for over 18 years and always drive past, but finally we stopped and had a meal. 5 of us had a meal, pudding and drinks. Pub its self is beautiful inside and out. The beer garden is lovely. Staff very welcoming and quick to help. If you are eating outside its bar service whats not a problem. All the food arrived and was incredible. I had the fish and chips and I must say the fish was beautifully cooked, batter was so crispy and tasty. All the other food that was ordered again was so good and everyone loved it. We WILL be back thats for sure.”

“Really like this place, only the second time we've been, same young chap served us and he was great; helpful and attentive without being over the top. Sat outside in sunshine to have a late lunch. Their pies are great. I had the chestnut, mushroom and thyme while my friend had the steak and ale, and we both thoroughly enjoyed them, the fries that accompany the pies are really good too. The pub is currently having a new head of hair, being thatched, and it was nice to listen to the thatcher's singing along to their tunes, as well as fascinating to see them work. All n'all highly recommend, and will definitely be coming back.”
