  “Had a good meal here before, but arrived today 45 min before last food orders only to be told the pub did not want to serve anyone else because they’d been a bit busy. Definitely won’t bother visiting the Stag’s Head again. Update following the owner's response: No mention was made when we were there about illness or hours - simply that the pub did not wish to take walk-ins since it had been busy earlier The food rating is from a previous visit, where the food was good The non-child friendly relates to declining to seat a family of 4 with a young infant, who had turned up 45 min before last food orders as advertised on the pub's website. No where on the pub's website does it say bookings are required. The pub is perfectly entitled to decide if it wants to stop serving earlier than publicly advertised, but it's entirely reasonable for a review to reflect the less-than-welcoming nature I and my family received.”

  “What can I say.100% on point, stunning inside and out. Beautiful Decor. The Stags Head Doddington,has hit the nail on the head in all aspects in our opinion . Pet friendly. If we could give 10 stars ,WE would. Excellent food, circa 20£-30£ a head ,excellent staff , extremely smartly ,dressed, brilliant atmosphere, Food is exceptional A big shout out for the Steak Pie, and the Wagu Burger.”

  “Being a Tuesday evening diner, with a friend I was visiting, the restaurant pub was quiet, but I understand it is popular with locals. Excellent range in a concise menu. Each dish was enticing. Excellent quality food served by friendly entertaining staff. The prices are a above average but so is the food. When returning to the area I would definitely like to dine here again and explore the menu further”

  “Having being highly recommended by family We visited for first time on Mother’s Day. 15/3/26. We booked in advanced and was seated at 1.30. We ordered drinks straight away from bar which came very quickly which was a great start. After 20mins our order from the set menu was taken. Starters arrived 25 mins later. Mains a further 56 mins. Dessert another 50 mins. It was Mother’s Day and very busy but the 3 hours from arrival to finish was very long especially with two children. How I didn’t complain I don’t know. We was apologised for the long wait on arrivals of food but to further disappoint the service itself, we wasn’t once asked how the food was or if we needed a drink etc. We saw all the staff were working very hard. Non stop busy coming in an out of kitchen but after spending £140 for 2 adults 2 kids Including a £15 tip. Being a little bit cared for wouldn’t have hurt. This did spoil the meal for us if we’re honest. I didn’t want to complain at the table as I do understand it was busy but after being walked past hundreds of times by multiple staff it would take a second to just check we’re ok. The food was fine. We really enjoyed it. Just waiting an hour a course just took the edge off really enjoying it. Both my wife and I would have preferred the beef pink but there didn’t seem to be a choice but it was tender and tasty so again this is personal preference. If meals do genuinely take longer here I don’t mind for freshly cooked good food but maybe for the kids an option for crayons, Print outs etc would be a nice touch. The pub it’s self looks fantastic inside. The parking was ample but funny enough we had to street park as no spaces were left but compared to other pubs the car park looked good. I paid the service charge as we felt the staff were still friendly, polite and working hard just on this occasion the wait times were just too long. I don’t think I’ve ever sat at a table of 4 for 3 hours before. Considering 2/4 meals were kids menu. It’s a shame and we are a little gutted as it did dampen our experience but I also hope any one visiting doesn’t have this and does get to enjoy the lovely pub and food.”

  “Quite simply, the best Roast Beef I’ve ever had! ​If you are looking for a proper Sunday roast, look no further than The Stag’s Head in Great Doddington. I recently had the 28-day aged beef, and it was exceptional—perfectly cooked and incredibly tender. It came served with a generous portion of roast potatoes, parsnips, broccoli, and root vegetables. ​Special mention must go to the gravy; it was easily the best I have ever tasted. Rich, savory, and tied the whole plate together. ​For dessert, I tried the brownie trifle. It was decadent and served with creamy custard, but the addition of an Inca berry (cape gooseberry) on top was a brilliant touch—it provided a refreshing, tart contrast to the sweetness. A 10/10 experience from start to finish. I’ll be back!”

  “Visited on Saturday 27th September for lunch. Plenty of parking at front and the rear of the pub. We were welcomed and seated quickly. Plenty of starters on offer but we opted for a Main course and Dessert. I ordered the Wagyu Burger, with Chips, onion rings and Coleslaw and my wife went for the Pie, Chips, Peas and some Leeks. What i will say straight away the food temperature was not good and we nearly sent both dishes back. The Pie was lovely and was generously filled, and the meat tender. The leeks were a little hard and the portion of the veg and chips wasnt good, cmon guys they are chips and veg, just up the portion size a little. But overall the food tasted good. For dessert my wife had the Sticky Toffee pudding but with Honeycomb ice cream and i opted for the Toffee and apple crumble with custard. The sticky toffee and pudding was lovely and the ice cream was delicious. The toffee crumble was ok, couldnt taste the toffee, and the apple a little tart, custard was lovely. The service was superb and the staff were lovely and helpful. If you can just iron out a couple of the niggles this place would have been 5 stars. The toilets were nice and clean and the lager was nice and cold. We will definatley be back soon to try the festive menu. I was torn about how many stars to give and if the food temperature and the portion of veg and chips were better it would have been 4-5 stars, but this place is really worth a visit and plenty of seating available.”

  “Wow, what a lovely place!!! Delicious food and really cosy interior. Tomato soup was sooo good and pizza second to none. Pork belly ideal and Yorkshire pudding great. I would only made gravy a little less bitter but that was me. Great place!!!”

  “What a wonderful Sunday lunch experience! The staff couldn't have been more welcoming. Every single member of staff was helpful, smiley and just absolutely lovely. They were also really attentive and fun with my 8 year old daughter despite being busy with some big parties. Due to one of our party having a dairy allergy, they double checked with the chef what she could safely eat. This was greatly appreciated. The food was reasonably priced and delicious. The brownie was incredible. Thank you! It's been a long time since we had such first class service.”
