Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the friendly, chatty staff, who bring orders from the bar up to the table and look after solo diners, though the vegan burger earns the boldest praise, described by one regular as the standard other vegan burgers are judged by. Close behind is the lounge breakfast, with crispy hash browns, smoky bacon and a Cumberland sausage, and a Mediterranean plate of lamb kofta, prawns and harissa chicken. A burger ordered well done arrived exactly as asked, and vegetarian options are called varied and tasty. Diners also mention fringed lampshades, candles, music at a comfortable volume and dachshunds being welcome. The caveats are cost and one harsh food verdict: a coffee and cake for two came to just over sixteen pounds, which one reviewer found expensive, while another found the chicken tapas dry, overcooked and tasteless, with guacamole that tasted only of coriander. One reviewer also wished the lounge were busier and blamed the lack of parking in town. One birthday group was allowed to bring their own cake.

“Castello the gold standard by which all other vegan burgers are judged. Some have come close but nobody and I do mean nobody serves a better vegan burger. Staff are always delightful, friendly and happy. We can also bring our Dachshunds which is a treat they definitely look forward too.”

“Coffee & cake, been wanting to try here for a while, we had a cappuccino, a latte which they made really milky for me, 1/2 shot, and a slice of cake each, I didn't find the latte overly hot, the cake was lovely, but at literally just over £16 for it i thought that was a bit on the expensive side for 2 drinks and 2 slices of cake. Definitely could not afford to do that regularly, which is a shame as it was lovely inside, with friendly staff, the menu looks good, and the food we saw coming out looked very nice.”

“Very disappointed in the food. All chicken dishes were dry, overcooked and tasteless. As for the guacamole, all you could taste was coriander. Worst tapas we have had. Not surprised the lounge was empty when we came in. Also it would be nice if the waitress put a smile on her face. No more chances on the food.”

“Great staff - most of them happy and chatty. Good, rather than great, beer choice, but at least they had a Brixton IPA. Big sunny space, funky decor, good tunes, but set at a good volume so you don't have to notice them if you don't want to. Menu is broad enough that there was plenty of choice. I had the lounge breakfast for £11 - a decent-sized English breakfast with superbly crispy hash browns, very nicely done smoky bacon, a Cumberland sausage that was delicious... everything about the meal was spot on.”

“Me and my girlfriend have date night every Friday and we have came here two Fridays in a row now and both times it has been lovely. The staff are so polite and always making sure the food is okay. I asked for my burger well done and it was perfect. Thank you again and we will return😊”
