About WAX Watergate Bay
WAX Watergate Bay sits overlooking the bay in Watergate Bay, set in a building that also serves as an inn, and operates as a restaurant and pub with a separate takeout counter. The kitchen turns out homemade pizza alongside burgers and chicken salad, with the pizza earning particular attention from visitors. Dogs are welcome, and the veranda takes in the bay views. The pub side covers drinks alongside the food, and guests staying at the inn are steps from the dining room. A 10% surfboard rental discount is offered, linking the pub to the surf culture of the bay. The dining room and bar get busy quickly at peak times, and the team takes orders at the counter.

“Bit of a dump of a place. Sticky chairs and tables and grotty “veranda”. Just an very average burger joint. Staff were good and friendly.”

“So disappointed after our visit today. We were really looking forward to a quick meal before needing to be somewhere, but sadly the experience was far from what we expected. We were not made aware of the 80-minute wait for food, so after already waiting an hour, we asked for an update and requested the food to be boxed up to take away. I really wish I’d checked it before we left, as the quality was extremely poor and, had we been eating in, we absolutely would have sent it back. The fish was tasteless, the calamari was rubbery and cold, the chicken tenders were drier than I ever thought possible, and the halloumi was cold and hard. After spending close to £50 on the meal, this really wasn’t what we had in mind. We would have gone elsewhere had we been told beforehand about the wait times. It would have saved us the disappointment on the food too.”
