About The Raven Inn
The Raven Inn is a community-owned pub at 341 Warrington Rd in Warrington, saved from demolition by locals and still staffed in part by volunteers. Inside, a real fire and original beams sit alongside wooden floorboards and a traditional bar. The kitchen makes its food in-house and serves real chips, with fish and chips on the menu next to pies, including a cheese pie and pie specials. Food comes out by table service. Dogs are welcome in about two-thirds of the pub, so walkers can bring their pets into most of the rooms. The pub also runs a quiz night and a jam night, and its live music nights include open mic sessions and a brass band.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the traditional pub cooking, especially the pies, with a cheese pie called delicious and a table of diners happy with different pie variations. Close behind are the flat iron steak with peppercorn sauce, pulled lamb with mash, and a pan fried pork chop, with large, piping hot servings noted. The beer earns its own mentions, from a Guinness one reviewer ranks among the best pints in a long while to the Titanic Plum Porter. Staff are described as friendly and quick, and the community ownership gives the pub a welcoming, cosy feel. The main complaint comes from one reviewer who found a pie warmed in a microwave, which destroyed the pastry, along with tasteless peas, chips with black bits and gravy like water. Another found the beef in Guinness gravy slightly dry, though the mash and vegetables were spot on. Several mention bringing a dog, and one evening visit coincided with a small brass band playing a week before Christmas.

“If you ever fancy Sunday lunch in a traditional cosy English pub then try the Raven. We’ve drove all over Cheshire some weekends and this was on our doorstep. A beautifully restored pub and some of the staff are volunteers! Lovely food, friendly staff and a perfect atmosphere - in a way I’d like to keep this place a secret, because it’s perfect.”

“We’ve just had a lovely pub tea at the raven. This isn’t Michelin star food but really good homemade food- with real chips. This visit was our 5th visit and each time we haven’t been disappointed. The service from the team there is exceptional and there is a real welcoming, community feel about the place (after all, it is a community pub!)! Tonight was an open mic evening and it was very reminiscent of The Detectorists (for anyone who’s watched it) Lovely food, exceptional service and warm welcoming vibe! Cant wait to go again.”

“First time visit. Popped in for a late lunch and drink with my wife. Lovely greeting from the staff as we entered the bar area. Wasn't busy so we chose our own table. Table service was very quick with drinks and food orders taken. My Guinness was exceptional, one of the best pints I've had in a long while. Food was piping hot with large servings. Starter and main. Very nice. Finished off with a Latte and biscuit. Will be visiting again but with our Cockapoo as it is 'Dog friendly' Many thanks.”

“Great pub and lovely staff, unfortunately the food let’s them down. Pie was warned in microwave which destroys the pastry, peas tasteless, chips to many black bits, gravy like water… I want this to be constructive criticism, these days all pubs rely on selling food so you have to step it up seriously as I want to support local heritage pubs but you can’t go cheap on food or food service…”

“We booked a table at The Raven for a Saturday lunch six of us escaping the gloomy weather to enjoy a proper pub catch-up. From the moment we walked in, it felt warm and homely. Wooden floorboards, cosy décor, a solid traditional bar exactly what you want from a countryside-style pub. The atmosphere immediately sets the tone. The menu was classic pub fare: lots of pies, fish and chips, and hearty mains. Nothing wildly experimental, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want. I went for the beef in Guinness gravy with mash, tenderstem broccoli and shantung carrots. The mash and vegetables were absolutely spot on, creamy, well-seasoned and generous. The beef was easy to cut into, though slightly on the dry side for me, and I wasn’t given a steak knife which would have helped. Still enjoyable overall. The rest of the table opted for different pie variations and everyone seemed very happy with their choices. They also offered orange wine, which isn’t something you often see on a pub menu. I tried a glass with dessert. It was pleasant, quite close to a white wine in taste. I’ve had more complex orange wines before, but it was still a nice change from the usual options. For dessert, most of the group had the crumble. I chose the crème brûlée (salted caramel, I think). It was pleasant and nicely done. Overall, the food was good, solid, comforting pub classics. But what really gives The Raven higher marks is the atmosphere and service. It felt welcoming, relaxed and perfect for a long Saturday lunch. I’d definitely go back.”
