About The Lower Angel
The Lower Angel is a traditional pub at 27 Buttermarket St in Warrington town centre. The bar pours real ales and cask beers, with guest beers that rotate, alongside local beers and Guinness on tap. A jukebox plays inside, and a small garden sits at the back. Dogs are welcome. Food stops at the usual bar snacks, so the focus stays on the drinks. The pub is a handy stop for anyone travelling between Central and Bank Quay stations.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return to this Warrington pub above all for its beer, with a rotating range of guest beers and cask ales, real ales and local beers repeatedly singled out. Close behind is the friendly feel, with several describing welcoming staff and locals, and one noting a warmer reception for foreigners than at other local pubs. Others mention the shortest-run Guinness in the area, the jukebox, and the little garden at the back. One reviewer calls it a traditional old pub full of characters that just needs a lick of paint, and another points out there is no food beyond usual bar snacks. The one clear complaint comes from a two-star review describing a woman behind the bar as unfriendly and rude, shouting across the room and looking as if she could not be bothered. Several others praise the bar staff as brilliant and helpful. Two reviewers call it the best pub in Warrington, and one says a friend's recommendation led them in and it exceeded expectations.

“Always pop in here when we come down for the rugby. Staff are always brilliant, helpful and friendly. Plenty of beer choice and real ales too. And the jukebox is fantastic, so is the atmosphere.”

“Came here on a friend’s recommendation and it exceeded expectations. Decent selection of real ales in a simple and traditional pub, popular with locals.”

“A really great old time pub in the heart of warrington, approx 10 guest beers and the shortest Guinness lines from barrel to glass in the area, really good atmosphere with great bar staff and management. No food available but usual bar snacks .”

“Been looking forward to visit the place since this has been well reviewed by locals. I've always been a fan of ales and they have got a great selection of it. I like the classic vibe inside. My only biggest comment though is that the woman in the bar was just very unfriendly and rude. She looked like she can't bothered, was shouting stuff in the bar, like she was forced to work there. The most unfriendly person i have encountered in a pub, and I've been around alot of pubs in warrington. Just rude. Pubs are closing all over the place, this attitude won't help with it either would it?”
