About The Hop Pole
The Hop Pole is a town-centre pub in Warrington on Horsemarket St, open daily. Weekends bring a DJ from late Friday afternoon, with karaoke and live music also on the weekend schedule. A pool table gives groups a game to play, and the jukebox carries music from all genres for anyone who wants to choose the soundtrack. A taxi rank sits right outside the door, and the bus station is next door.

Customer Review Summary
Music is what most reviewers return to, from a jukebox covering all genres to a DJ on Friday evenings and weekends, with karaoke, live music and a pool table also mentioned. Several describe a good atmosphere and friendly staff, one praises a cheerful barman, and another credits the beer. Reviewers also note the taxi rank outside and the bus station next door. The complaints are sharper than the praise suggests. One reviewer calls the karaoke set up shabby and cliquey and describes an air of menace later in the evening. Another reports a man approaching uninvited and making a threat, bar staff doing nothing when he opened the curtains during an Ann Summers event, and a friend's bag being stolen on a later visit. Others say the toilets could be cleaner, the televisions have a poor picture, and the pub looks closed on weekday evenings. One regular-weekend visitor still objects that regulars were served before people waiting patiently at the bar, twice in a single Friday evening.

“Went to the Hop Pole twice and both visits left a bad taste. First visit: I was having a serious conversation with a friend when a middle-aged local guy came over uninvited, interrupted us, and started sharing that he’d been inside for firearms offences and wasn’t allowed to see his kids. He then told us if we said he looked gay he’d hit us. The pub was running an Ann Summers event at the time and had closed the curtains to separate the pub from the shop window. This guy opened the curtains himself and stood there perving at the ladies for a while — the bar staff did nothing about it. A few months later my friend’s bag was stolen. When I came back in with her a couple of days afterwards the barman was noticeably cold and unwelcoming. It’s a proper old-school town-centre boozer with zero pretence, but the atmosphere and crowd made me feel very uncomfortable. Haven’t been back since and wouldn’t recommend it if you’re after a relaxed pint.”

“Not my cup of tea, each to their own. Far better places in town”

“A nice pub with a good atmosphere. Decent music of all genres from the jukebox and then at the weekends and from 4:00 p.m. on a Friday there is a DJ. Sometimes they do karaoke. With a pool table. Prices for drinks are quite average for this area. The taxi rank is right outside and the bus station is next door.”
