About Magic Wok
Magic Wok is a Chinese takeaway in Waltham Abbey, based at 20 Market Sq. The kitchen cooks Chinese cuisine, and the menu includes chicken balls and chicken curry as two of its dishes. Customer Review Summary
Reviews split sharply between loyal regulars and disappointed first-timers. Fans single out the crispy chilli beef and the chow mien in gravy, with the chicken curry, satay chicken skewers, egg fried rice and salt and chilli chips close behind. They describe big portions, old school cooking and food that arrives piping hot, often earlier than quoted. One regular says they cannot eat from any other Chinese place since a first order years ago. The complaints are specific. Chicken balls are called slimy in the middle by one reviewer and dry and slightly burnt by another, one curry is described as watery and tasteless, and ribs as soaked in sauce. One reviewer describes a rude counter greeting that went unreturned, while another calls the woman there lovely. Three reviewers report stomach trouble the next day, including diarrhea and sickness in one household. One diner ordered Mandarin Tender Beef and received mostly sprouts with two pieces of beef.

“It wasn't a very good experience.Ordered from this place first time after reading recommendations on FB. Waste of money:could taste that meat and prawns were not freshly prepared, chicken balls dry and slightly burnt, ribs soaked in a filthy sauce. Too much sauce on everything and overcooked veg!”

“First time having this Chinese and it was OK. But the morning after wasn't nice. My poor children had to listen to me and my partner having diarrhea and being sick. Taking turns to use the toilet. Won't be using this take away again.”
