Customer Review Summary

Diners most often return for the crispy aromatic duck with pancakes, with the crispy aromatic lamb starter, Szechuan chicken, special fried rice and a Malaysian fried rice also singled out. Close behind is the service, with several describing friendly, attentive waiters who kept glasses full, and one reviewer praising a Toffee Banana dessert the young servers recommended. A few note the room is small, with tables close together, and one reviewer says the starter was served with the main after staff first said it could not be. Complaints are real and specific. One group left after being held back at a booked table, and another says starters never arrived promptly. A diner found the seaweed cold and chewy, the spring rolls greasy and the sweet and sour pork fatty, and found the set menu for three too small with a 17.5% service charge. One reviewer reports feeling unwell after eating there, and a takeaway order was called small and flavourless. Several call it overpriced, yet one finds it reasonable, and one praises a free-flowing beer and wine selection.

“We wanted to see if May lived up to the hype as it had been recommended by a friend. Have to say, we ordered a takeaway and was hugely disappointed. Food portions were small and utterly flavourless - for the restaurant prices charged, it is not worth the money. A great shame.”

“We booked a table for 4 for 8.00pm. They told us there would be a 15 minute delay as they were busy. We had a drink. As time wore on more people were waiting for tables but no one was taken to their tables. At 8.40 we decided to leave and go to the Swan Chinese restaurant, where we were well looked after. It seems everyone enjoys May but frankly they dont seem very organised and ruined our expectations of a good night there. To say they were disorganised and amateur is an understatement. I am sure those who were able to get a table enjoyed themselves but to hold people back for nearly an hour is just not on. On this experience the Swan is better as we were looked after and food was very good. May needs to sort itself out and allow appropriate time between bookings or they upset as many clients as they please.”

“Monday early evening. Place was full and as tables emptied were in use again. So booking advisable. Service was excellent made to feel like royalty. Food first class. Only slight moan was tables a bit close together but only trying to give more people a chance to get served Definitely going again”

“Me and my partner had a lovely meal, we were greated and sat down quickly. We had ordered a crispy aromatic lamb (starter) along with noodle, rice, chilli beef and salt and pepper chicken. I asked for the starter to come with my main. My reasoning for atmosphere 4* is that this seemed to be a issue as 2 staff members told me I couldn't have the the 1 starter served with my main meal but despite this, everything arrived together. Reasoning for food rating being 4* was simply due to the cost being so overpriced, but the food is lovely. Anyhow, food was lovely, and the 3 young lads serving, Jamie, James and Grigoris were charming and attentive, making sure our glasses were full, making conversation and checking everything was okay with our meal. Were we're indecisive whether or not to have a desert but the young boys recommended the 'Toffee Banana' and oh my.. one of the best best deserts ever!!! Great meal, thank you!”

“If I could give it 0 stars I would. Service was absolutely terrible, waited over 1 hour just for starters. Food was disgusting, ordered a king prawn noodle to have 3 prawns in the whole dish. Infact me and my partner have felt very very unwell since eating in here over the weekend. Also may I add.. VERY VERY EXPENSIVE for not good quality food.”
