Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return to The Crusty Cob for its cheese and onion cobs and made to order sandwiches, with a hot and cold selection that includes pork and stuffing, jacket potatoes, soups and toasties. Close behind are the cakes, with cream cakes singled out, and a varied breakfast menu. Several call the staff friendly and welcoming, and one regular group has ordered works sandwiches every Friday for years. Bread is described as fresh, and a few mention good value, though another finds it a bit pricey. The sharpest criticism comes from one reviewer who found a breakfast sandwich assembled from pre-cooked items: one rasher of bacon dried up and chewy, tiny sausages with dry skin, and microwaved fried eggs. That reviewer also found a carrot cake whose icing stuck to the bag, and felt the service was polite but not very welcoming. Even there, the bread was called the best part of the meal. One diner went just before closing and found the shelves a bit empty, yet the made to order cheese salad sandwich still came out fresh.

“I came across this little sandwich shop yesterday & it’s a little hidden gem. I ordered a made to order cheese salad sandwich, which was fresh & exactly what you’d want from a place like this. The bread was good & everything tasted nice & fresh. I went just before closing so the shelves were a bit empty, but next time I’ll definitely go earlier. I was served by Marie, who was really polite & welcoming, & another lady with glasses who brought my sandwich over, I didn’t quite catch her name but both were genuinely lovely & gave great service. They offer a nice range too, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, pastries, soups, toasties, drinks, hot & cold. I’ll definitely be popping in again to try more. Really nice little shop with friendly staff & good food.”
