About Afriqana Grill and Lounge
Afriqana Grill and Lounge is a Nigerian restaurant in Walsall, on Lichfield St at number 127. The menu includes Igbo-style nkwobi, a spicy cow foot dish, alongside egusi soup served with swallows such as poundo. Jollof rice with fried fish gives the menu a rice option next to the soups. The food is halal, which makes the kitchen an option for guests who eat only halal meat. Tables are booked by phone, and orders can also be placed over the phone. The grill side of the name shows in the rotisserie chicken on the menu.

Customer Review Summary
Nkwobi, the spicy cow foot dish, is the draw reviewers return to, with one calling the portion generous and another saying it is the only thing they order. Close behind, one diner praised the swallows and the smooth poundo, and another described decent service and a caring receptionist who responded promptly to an emergency. Opinions on the soups split: one found the ogbono and egusi mid, while another called the egusi a nasty mess and said standards have dropped since the earlier shop by the college. Jollof rice with fried fish was called tasteless and bland, and a fish soup and a pepper dish drew similar complaints of poor value for around the same money. Several raise pricing, including charges that differ from the menu and a feeling of being overcharged. Service slips also recur: one party waited another stretch after phoning ahead and was first brought a meal for one when two were ordered, and one reviewer found okra soup unavailable on more than one visit. One reviewer also describes the dining room as dark.

“Went here in the 1st week it opened. Rang up & booked a table on a Saturday, expecting it to be busy but it was not surprisingly. Nice, clean, friendly polite staff. ordered a Rotisserie Chicken £14.95 Fried Chicken is Life £16.95 Chicken Date £11.95 2 x Island Fish & Chips £18.95 Food was nice and tasty, but I do think they are a little on the pricey side. Will I go again ? not sure to be honest”

“Had a dinner with my wife. We ordered for swallows, nice service, decent meal. We received a very caring service from the receptionist on duty. She responded promptly to an emmergency situation that happened and supported us cheerfully”

“I bought jollof rice with fried fish and honestly, it was tasteless. That thing shouldn’t be called jollof rice at all — it’s pure concoction rice. The fish was just as bland. £12 completely wasted. Ended up throwing everything in the bin 😭 Please don’t buy jollof rice here, it’s a total scam.”

“First off I only ever order the Nkowbi which I like. They lack any customer service, like none at all, and with that there’s a limit at which one can take. Then comes the rip off Charging proves different from what’s on the menu, it’s not about the £2 extra being charged or whatever else they decide to add on top that’s different from the menu. We Africans have decided that your prices (all African restaurants) are rip offs and lack what it is to go chain, but with the money you’re extorting from us, either update your menus with the monies yall taking off us to reflect what you want to charge so we feel less ripped off or charge what it says. If snitching were allowed I’d have alerted the trading commission. Fix up”
