Customer Review Summary

The cod and chips draw the most praise, repeatedly called the best in the area, with a crisp batter and "small" portions that reviewers say are surprisingly generous. Close behind, the curry sauce and traditional chips get steady mentions, one diner calls the kebab "pure poetry," and another highlights the chicken nuggets as good value for the price. Several reviewers credit one particular cook with turning out perfect batter and chunky fish, though they note standards have slipped at times since a change in ownership, with chips described as greasier, less crispy, or arriving cold, and one visit where a portion of fried chicken was so oily it could be measured out afterward. A couple of reviewers describe being treated rudely when they questioned staff, though others describe a chatty, welcoming counter experience instead. One reviewer avoiding pork reports being told everything is fried in the same oil and urges others with dietary restrictions to ask first. Regulars mention children being given sweets during visits and staff sorting occasional order issues without argument.

“This chip shop used to be great for many years back in the day, but since the change in ownership it has gone downhill. The chips can be decent when fresh, but sometimes they have a noticeable taste of overused oil. My brother ordered fish and chips, & unfortunately the fish wasn’t great, it was soggy & had that same burnt oil taste, similar to what I experienced with my chips. On a positive note, the service is good. The staff are polite & friendly which is appreciated. Parking is limited to around 2/3 spaces directly outside on a main road, but most people tend to use the Lidl next door. Overall, I’d rate it 3 stars. It used to be closer to a 4 & at one point about 15 years ago a 5.”

“I have been coming here for years but since the takeover, chips are harder more greasy and not as crispy and miss the batter bits. I have been disppointed to open up the food and chips have been cold. Its a shame as the new owners are nice but before there were lines of people out side the door but shop is now empty”
