About Ailsa Tavern

Ailsa Tavern is a pub in Twickenham on St. Margarets Rd, set in a 19th-century inn with a garden. As a Shepherd Neame pub, it pours keg beers and cask ales, and the kitchen pairs them with gourmet burgers and artisan pizzas. A Sunday roast is served too, with roast lamb among the options. The pub sits near Twickenham Stadium and gets busy with rugby crowds on match days. Tables can be booked. The calendar includes live music and charity events, and a poker night runs for card players. Bus stops sit close to the door.

Customer Review Summary

Sunday roast is what reviewers praise most, with one diner describing roast lamb in a generous, tasty plateful and another calling a roast dinner delicious, perfectly cooked and full of flavour. Two others came for lunch before the rugby at Twickenham, and one of them booked an outside table with young children and found the home cooked food and service lovely. Close behind are the friendly, welcoming staff, a wide selection of drinks including keg beers and a couple of cask ales, and a well developed garden. One reviewer was surprised the usual Spitfire cask was not on. Events draw comment too, including live music, a charity event, a poker night and the Wimbledon final on the TV. The one sharply negative account describes a long wait for food, old and burned nachos, dirty glasses, a rude waitress, and a handwritten receipt listing only a total, so the table added up the bill themselves. Another reviewer, who planned only a quick meal and a pint, stayed for the whole afternoon.

“Had such a lovely roast dinner here today! The food was absolutely delicious — generous portions, perfectly cooked, and full of flavour. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were all so friendly. We know the chef personally, and my partner supplies the meat through his butcher’s, so it’s especially nice to see such amazing quality ingredients being cooked with real care and attention. You can truly taste the difference. Definitely one of the best pub roasts around and we’ll absolutely be back again! Thank you Jenny xox”

“Nice friendly place with good pub grub and a selection of beers. I'd like to go again but it's a long way from Belgium. I shall remember it fondly, and think of it whenever I see a rugby crowd.”
