About White Cross
White Cross is a Victorian-style pub on the Thames in Richmond, at Riverside House, open daily. It has a real fireplace, and the bar is downstairs. Upstairs, a dining room looks over the river, with French doors opening onto a riverside balcony. A private dining room gives groups their own space. The menu is small, built around fish and chips with a curry sauce option and a Hot Honey burger, and the cheeseburger is the vegan choice. The garden by the river floods at high tide, so check the tide before you go. Dogs are welcome. Food and drinks can be ordered through the Young's on Tap app.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips is the dish reviewers raise most, called divine and delicious, with one praising the optional curry sauce. Close behind are a Hot Honey burger, a cheeseburger that is the lone vegan option, tender fried chicken from the bucket, Korean glazed wings as the standout, and an outstanding beef and Guinness pie. The riverside setting draws repeated praise, from sunsets along the Thames to an upstairs room with river views. Several mention the garden flooding at high tide, which one enjoyed as part of the experience while another says to check the tide first. The pub is packed and the bar has a queue, though staff are called efficient and polite. One diner was told a vegan dish had been dropped, and another found a pint of Camden Pale Ale pricey. One reviewer strongly advises booking ahead. Higher chairs and stools keep drinkers dry when the water comes in.

“What an absolute gem of a place! We made reservations for the night and arrived an hour prior. It was packed but we were still able to get in two cocktails beforehand. The drinks were phenomenal and the atmosphere was a blast. It’s the type of place you find a corner in the crowd and laugh and gossip and people watch. Upstairs is an entirely different experience. It’s quiet and beautiful and the service is attentive and the food was excellent. The dining room overlooks the Thames and the decor felt romantic and whimsical. I could live in the curry sauce that’s an option with the fish and chips. Very happy we left London central to experience Richmond and found this spot.”

“One of the best located pubs in London. Even if the tables are all full, there's oodles of space to sit out the front on the river wall or draped across a bench. Good wide beer selection. Helpful staff and also there were lots of them on, so even though it was busy, you got served really swiftly. Hard to fault this place really.”

“Very lively pub on the Thames riverbank. Greatt atmosphere. Fabulous location, but check the tide first as the garden gets flooded at high tide. Higher chairs and stools to keep you dry.”

“Had my 60th party in the room upstairs. It’s a really lovely space, with French doors opening on to a riverside balcony. We had the set menu buffet and they catered for vegans and GF guests. Everything went smoothly and the whole process of booking was handled easily and professionally. I’ve had glowing feedback from guests. Thanks to all at the White Cross! 🤩”

“We met some people in another pub in Richmond who mentioned this one, and we decided to check it out. So glad we did! We got there right before high tide to experience the famous water rising into the outdoor seating area. Great food and drinks, beautiful day, we stayed for about 2 hours just because we were enjoying the whole experience! Highly recommend checking it out, and Richmond was just a beautiful area to spend time in walking around!”
