  “Lovely location, brilliant cafe, in an old railway station. Great staff. Easy to order. Pretty good value. We had the station master breakfast and the puffing billy breakfast at 2pm in the afternoon! It was fantastic. 10 out of 10. Lovely sausages. Good bacon. Great hashbrowns. Highly recommend. They are licensed and have a wide menu range for lunches. We sat outside in the lovely weather. But there is probably another 20 tables Inside.”

  “The advert outside states "amazing coffee" and I have ro tell you it absolutely is! Coffee is so often just OK, but this was a dream. I had a cappuccino that had wonderful flavour and was velvety smothered and rich. An utter delight. I went on to have lunch which was equally lovely. Really recommend Puffing Billy!!!”

  “Parking is great. Dog walks are spectacular and safe along the Tarka Trail. Great to have a breakfast after the walk. Sausage and mushrooms were highlights for me. Poached eggs were cooked nicely too.”

  “Walked along the nearby trail. Returned to the cafe. Had coffee plus delicious fruit cake. Lots of inside and outside tables. Very dog friendly After a short walk towards Bideford along the trail, there is a small waterfall within the river. Beyond that spot, it becomes very tranquil. Beware of cyclists. Most were considerate towards walkers 😊”

  “Such a lovely place to go to on a random drive around. Stopped off to walk the dogs. Then had a lovely beer and a piece of cake. Doggos had their doggy ice cream. Service was very good. Quite reasonable prices.”

  “Stopped off after bike ride for lunch. Excellent food & good selection of GF. Had jacket potato with tuna mayonnaise, salad, coleslaw, plenty of it then coffer with gf lemon drizzle cake & Victoria sandwich, fantastic. Staff pleasant & helpful. Definitely go again when in the area.”

  “The puffing Billy cafe is probably one of the best breakfasts for a long way. The locally produced and sourced sausages and bacon are amazing. The staff are great and friendly the coffee's great. The juice is great and not only can you drive there and park right outside. It's also a cycle track that goes through torrington and down the hill or even all the way from the coast which is a quick cycle ride all the way from barnstable Bedford that kind of area. Then you can end up at the puff and Billy for breakfast or afternoon and then cycle back a lovely day out.”

  “My wife and I visit Devon regularly from West of London but ALWAYS time our visits to be at the Puffing Billy for the roast Sunday Lunch. It is ALWAYS excellent for quality, taste, quantity and value for money. The long 4 hour drive is always rewarded with this meal. We’ve done this so often now that we are personally welcomed by the lovely Claire and all her fantastic staff, (big call out Abby). It’s not just Sunday lunch! There’s nowhere else we’ve found that toasts such perfect cranberry teacakes, and my wife’s Avo on toast for breakfast was spot on. The Puffing Billy is a solid 5/5 every day of the week!”

  “A fantastic pit stop on the Tarka Trail – highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What an absolute gem! Nestled in a beautifully converted old railway station right on the Tarka Trail, the Puffing Billy is the perfect spot for a well-earned break. The food is excellent—freshly cooked to order, generously portioned, and incredible value for money. Their breakfasts are legendary, the hand-cut chips are perfectly crispy, and the homemade cakes are simply to die for. They also offer a fantastic Sunday roast by the cosy log fire, which is the ultimate comfort food. The atmosphere is wonderfully quirky and warm. The old station house is packed with fascinating railway memorabilia that adds so much character. With a welcoming log burner for chilly days, plenty of outdoor seating for when the sun's out, and a lovely team of friendly, welcoming staff, it's always a pleasure to visit. A special shout-out for being so dog-friendly! It’s the ideal place to stop with your four-legged friend after a long walk or cycle along the trail. Whether you're a walker, a cyclist, or just passing through, do yourself a favour and stop at the Puffing Billy. You won't be disappointed!”

  “Food is always great! And coffee is the best. However, one waitress did put us off for a while as she was rude and snappy to us, and other customers. It’s understandable when it’s busy and it can be stressful, but at the end of the day, it is your job to be polite and kind to the people paying £50+ for a couple lunches. However, rest of the staff were fabulous and hard working.”
