About Paul's Plaice
Paul's Plaice is a fish and chips takeaway in Torquay, on Barton Hill Rd. Fish and chips is the main item, with haddock, cod and plaice on offer, and the plaice is cooked to order. The chips are battered in the same batter as the fish, so both come with the same coating. Sausages are available alongside, and gravy can be added. At peak times, certain items call for a phone order ahead. Payment is cash only.

Customer Review Summary
Battered chips are the most frequent draw, described as crispy, tasty and filling, with the same batter on the fish. Reviewers also name plaice cooked to order, lovely cod, an orange crispy haddock and a cheesy fish, and several praise the friendly, welcoming staff. Regulars of over 25 years sit alongside holidaymakers and visitors who make a special trip. The complaints are specific. One Friday evening diner found both fish and chips greasy and the fish poor quality, while another says the chips were fatty and covered in fish batter as if cooked together. One reviewer describes a long wait and having to repeat a simple order four times, and a holidaymaker found the gravy thin with little flavour. One reviewer suggests calling ahead on certain items at peak times. Another travels a good distance each way to bring fish and chips home for the family.

“No other fish & chips anywhere local can beat these. I travel 20 mins each way to supply the family. The fish is beautiful and the batter which is also on the chips is crispy and tasty. As far as I know it's a family run business and all who work there are excellent with a great friendly smile. Have tried other places when I have had too but nothing beats these, well done keep up the great service and please never go away 🙂”

“1st visit as we were on holiday. Plaice cooked to order - delicious. Cod was lovely, generous portions of battered chips. Only criticism - gravy was thin + not much flavour.”
