About Hing's Chinese takeaway shiphay
Hing's Chinese takeaway shiphay is a Chinese takeaway in Torquay, based at 9 Collaton Rd. The kitchen works through a Chinese menu that includes crispy chilli beef, chicken chow mein and crispy duck served with cucumber. The crispy dishes sit alongside noodle plates, so the menu covers both fried and stir-fried cooking. The shop trades in the evenings only and is open across the week, with Tuesday as its one closed day. That pattern leaves six evenings for ordering.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers mostly describe food that arrives cold or poorly made, with the crispy chilli beef and crispy beef the most criticised dishes, described as tasting like fish and Worcester sauce in one review and having no beef in another. Sweet and sour sauce draws repeated complaints, called only sour, soapy and congealed. Spring rolls are called soggy or unfilled, and chicken balls overcooked or mostly batter. The fried rice is the one item singled out as decent, though another reviewer found hardly any chicken in it. Delivery is a split: one reviewer describes a Chinese New Year order still not arrived after nearly three hours, and another a wrong order swapped with no apology, while two others say food came quickly and one calls the online ordering easy. One reviewer reports mouldy, slimy cucumber with crispy duck and being offered a refund on only the duck, not the whole meal. The few positive reviews call the food delicious and the customer service good.

“Food arrived pretty quickly but was cold. The ‘crispy seaweed’ was stale and far from crispy. Not their best effort”

“Only decent thing about this meal was the fried rice. The chicken balls were ok but 90% batter and small, the crispy chilli beef tasted like fish and Worcester sauce and the sweet n sour sauce was so vile I had to spit it out. Tasted like soap and all congealed! First time and last time ordering here”

“Absolutely rubbish cold, crispy beef had no beef in it and was cold really odd colour, curry has no flavour, spring rolls have no filling and look like frozen ones u can get in asda, would never buy them. Food looks old, and like it could make you ill. Noodles are over cooked and all the food is luke warm. I will never oder from here again.. Absolutely awful”
