Customer Review Summary

Prawn toast is the most repeated draw, with one diner noting a whole king prawn on the toast and another calling it one of the best they have had. Salt and pepper dishes come close behind, the chicken praised on a takeaway order and the squid called lovely, while others name sweet and sour chicken, duck and pineapple, spring rolls and a generous vegan version of the vegetarian banquet. Staff are described as friendly and welcoming, and several reviewers call the value good. The complaints are fewer but specific. One reviewer found the salt and pepper spare ribs beyond recognition, the fried rice smelling of burnt rice and the black bean tofu salty, and felt the food lacked Cantonese authenticity. Another reports a takeaway of crispy beef and sweet and sour chicken that went in the bin, the chicken tasting off and the beef like pure vinegar. A reviewer with a severe nut and fish allergy said the kitchen took it seriously when checking the order, and one server tied chopsticks together for a diner's daughter.

“We ordered a takeaway and the food was spot on, especially the salt and pepper chicken. We called ahead to mention a severe nut and fish allergy, and they took it very seriously, checking everything with the kitchen. There’s always some risk when allergens are on the menu, but we really appreciated their care and attention. Would definitely order again.”

“Honestly im not joking we ordered crispy beef , sweet and sour chicken and everything went in the bin. The chicken was defiently off. The crispy beef was like eating pure vinigar, the vinigar was way to much We paid 70 plus pounds for everything to go in the bin which was a waste of our holiday”

“would like to share our wonderful experience at Yum Sing Restaurant in Torquay, although I honestly don’t think this restaurant needs any advertisement. Places like this speak for themselves! My wife and I decided to celebrate her birthday in Torquay, and we chose Yum Sing for our dinner. We booked a table a day in advance, and from the moment we arrived, we knew we had made the right choice. Location: The location was excellent, and having a secure car park was a real bonus. It made arriving and leaving very convenient and gave us one less thing to worry about during our special evening. Atmosphere: The atmosphere was amazing — warm, welcoming and relaxing. One of the first things we noticed was that the restaurant is run by a lovely family. They were absolutely kind, caring and respectful, and their genuine hospitality made us feel very comfortable and welcome. Food: We ordered a starter and a main course, and both were absolutely delicious. The food was beautifully prepared, full of flavour and clearly made with care. We thoroughly enjoyed every bite and couldn't have asked for a better meal to celebrate my wife's birthday. Service: The service was brilliant from beginning to end. The staff were friendly, attentive and genuinely caring without being intrusive. Their warmth and professionalism really made our evening special. Value: The value for the quality of the food and service was fantastic. We felt that we received an excellent experience for the price, and the personal touch from the family made it even more worthwhile. Wait Time: The waiting time was very reasonable. We were able to enjoy our evening at a comfortable pace without feeling rushed or having to wait too long for our food. To be honest, after finishing our meal, we didn't want to leave. We were having such a lovely and memorable time that we wished the evening could have continued. Unfortunately, we had to return to our hotel. A special thank you to all the Yum Sing members of staff for making my wife's birthday so memorable. Your kindness, delicious food and wonderful service turned a simple dinner into a truly special experience for both of us. We will definitely return whenever we are in Torquay again. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Thank you, Yum Sing, for a fantastic evening and a beautiful birthday memory.”

“We really enjoyed the services providing by the waitress, she was attentive and caring. We tipped her after paying the bill. We also liked the decoration. It looked elegant. Unfortunately, the food could not convince us much. Even though the restaurant claimed itself a Cannonese style restaurant. We could not taste the authenticity of some of the food. In particular, the salt and pepper spare ribs, it was beyond our recognition. The Yung Chow fried rice, had a little bit of unpleasant smell of over burnt rice. The tofu (actually deep fried tofu puffs) and vegetables in black bean source was a bit salty to our liking. However, the sweet and sour king prawns (though the prawns were not big enough as king, the batter made them looked big) and satay chicken in skewers were quite tasty. I would recommend the visitors and the locals to make their own judgement if they happened to try the food. But I would not recommend to the Chinese.”
