About Happy Chef
Happy Chef is a Chinese takeaway at 82 Belgrave Rd in Torquay. Every order comes with free prawn crackers. A smoked chicken starter gives customers a first course to order ahead of the mains. On the main menu, the kitchen offers duck fried rice and salt and chilli dishes, so there is a rice dish to choose as well as a different main. Customers order and pick up at the counter, and the team hands over each order there.

Customer Review Summary
Most positive reviewers return for food that arrives piping hot and fast, whether collected or delivered, with one long-time customer reporting more than ten years without an issue. Duck fried rice is singled out for its tender meats, and that same customer recommends the smoked chicken starter, chow mein and salt and chilli dishes. Reviewers also mention a friendly counter, a lovely delivery driver and generous portions with leftovers. Four reviewers are sharply critical, though. Complaints name dry, overcooked crispy shredded beef, lemon chicken under thick lemon curd, bland boiled house special rice, dry chips, and sweet and sour chicken balls that tasted of salt, with a regular getting only an apology and no replacement. One reviewer describes cold egg fried rice, pink chicken, and a hair and a beetle in the food, and says they were told to hurry up when ordering. Free prawn crackers come up on both sides: one diner received them, while a regular noticed they were missing from a smaller order.

“We had a delivery via food hub. I’m not usually one to leave bad reviews but Not sure if it was because we ordered so late but one of the worst Chinese we have had. We had been really looking forward to getting a Chinese all day we spent nearly £60 and seriously regretted it after 2 things went straight in the bin. Lemon chicken just had like a thick lemon curd on top and crispy shredded beef we get most times from a Chinese but this one was so overcooked and dry no veg and fried house special rice was not fried bland just boiled rice with a weird sauce on top - unfortunately a very disappointing meal. 😞”

“What an experience out of the best Chinese takeaway in Torbay. The service was excellent with a kind young man at the counter, and food was quick to be served and was hot. The food was plentiful, with an explosion of flavours dancing on my tastebuds, making my grin widen with every bite. Portion sizes were perfect, with enough to enjoy and some extra to save. Will be put in my books as an excellent Chinese takeaway, although nothing can be perfect. 非常好 ❤️.”
