Quick info
About Light Bulb Coffee
Light Bulb Coffee is a speciality coffee shop and micro-roastery at 51 Devizes Rd in Swindon, where the daytime coffee counter turns into a pub and beer bar once evening comes. As a micro-roastery, it sells coffee beans to take home. The coffee list includes flat white and batch brew, with two batch brews on at a time and samples offered before you choose. Pastries such as pain au chocolat are made with sourdough, and pizza comes out of the kitchen in the evening to go with the beer. A second floor upstairs adds more seating. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring them along.

Customer Review Summary
Coffee is the draw, with reviewers praising an outstanding flat white to go, two batch brews and coffee art that makes each cup feel special. Staff are described as friendly and knowledgeable, and one reviewer was given samples of both batch brews before buying beans. The tea selection and a chocolate doughnut also earn praise. Several mention pizza and beer in the evening, and the upstairs floor is described as quieter for working on a laptop. Pastries divide opinion. One reviewer found a plain croissant cold, hard and dense, and a ham and cheese croissant also arrived cold, with the explanation that pastries are not heated. Another disliked the sourdough pain au chocolat and pain au raisin for their sweet and sour taste. One reviewer notes service slows when busy with a single coffee machine, and another calls it pricey. The most serious complaint came from a customer whose bean order had still not arrived a week later, with an unanswered phone message and no return call.

“A coffee shop by day and a pub by night. The pub decor gave it a homely feeling. Seeing one of the brews available named after a place in Lord of the Rings more so! The coffee available is good, as were the pastries. Plenty of seating, especially upstairs. WiFi is also available: for me initially it connected, but took a while to provide Ethernet. But once provided, it was solid. Several people like to sit down and use their laptops upstairs to do work there.”

“Coffee very good. I am less sure about the pastries: pain au choclate, pain au raisin etc. Curiously, they are made with sourdough rather than the usual sweet pastry. This creates a sweet n sour taste experience which I didn't enjoy. I like sourdough bread for savoury things, not sweet.”

“Listen, is it pricey? Yes. But the people working know their stuff. The coffee is picked out very intentionally and the staff will let you know what’s good. I rate it”

“Good coffee but the food was unenjoyable. The plain croissant was cold, hard and dense, with no buttery taste or sweetness, it tasted more like bread. The ham and cheese croissant was served cold and we were told they don’t heat their pastries up. Hard, cold cheese and ham that’s been left out all morning didn’t go down well.”
