About Thai Thai Kitchen
Thai Thai Kitchen is a family-run Thai restaurant in Sunderland at 2 Neville Rd, with an open-concept kitchen where the chef cooks in view. It works mainly as a takeaway, with a couple of small tables inside, and it takes walk-ins. The menu includes Pad Kee Mao, made with thick udon-style noodles and served mild or at a medium heat with a substantial kick. The Thai special fried rice is comparable to a Thai pineapple fried rice, and the Som Tam can be ordered with fewer chillies. Mains do not include rice, so boiled rice is added separately.

Customer Review Summary
Pad Kee Mao is the dish reviewers return to most, praised for its balanced, authentic flavour and thick udon style noodles, with one diner calling it rich and truly spicy. Close behind are the Thai special fried rice, likened to pineapple fried rice back home in Thailand, and the Pad Kra Pao. The corn fritters, prawn toast, Som Tam, Pad Thai and stir fries also draw praise for flavour and generous portions. Reviewers describe a lovely family running the place, friendly staff, and an open kitchen where the wok hei is evident. Heat runs high, so reviewers suggest asking for mild, or for one chili on the papaya salad. The complaints centre on takeaway and delivery orders. Several describe small containers filled mostly with vegetables and runny sauce, very little meat, and rice charged separately, which they call overpriced for the portions. One main left a pair of diners gasping from heat, and another order arrived with overwhelming ginger and little seasoning. One reviewer was so taken with the place that they returned for dinner two nights in a row.

“Very overpriced!!!! I ordered a single Pad Kra Pao, which cost £12 on its own—not even boiled rice was included. What I received was a small box filled mostly with vegetables and barely any meat. After adding boiled rice, I ended up paying nearly £15 for what was essentially a bowl of the cheapest vegetables with very little meat. It definitely wasn’t worth the money at all.”

“We ordered the Kow Pod Tod (Thai Corn Fritters) and chicken Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles), the Kow Pod Tod were very tasty and a good, generous sized portion. The drunken noodles had a very balanced, authentic flavour and I was glad to see thick udon style noodles (as I'm not a fan of the thin vermicelli noodles that a lot of other places use). If you're not big on chili heat then I'd suggest going for the mild as the medium has a substantial kick to it. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and given the good quality food for a reasonable price I will certainly be coming back to try more in future.”

“Ordered a takeaway for collection Saturday 17th January 2026, as a treat from a new place. Seemed quite pricey at £41.90 for two starters (most are £7), two mains (a stir fry chicken and a beef curry - most mains are £10-12) and a bag of prawn crackers (£4), but we went ahead. We are not entirely sure if the items we received were correct. Either way, there wasn’t a lot for the money, the cartons were mostly runny liquid that passed for the sauces, and there was very little meat to be found amongst the vegetables. One of the mains was extremely strong / hot and had us gasping, yet we didn’t order anything that was labelled as particularly spicy. Unlike a Chinese takeaway, the mains do not include any portions of rice / chips in the price. Very disappointing and over-priced, we definitely won’t be going back to this place, best stick with a Chinese.”

“Ordered from Just eat and shocked is an understatement. £40 order and what arrived was three small containers of food with little seasoning and overwhelming ginger. The lack of meat in the portions is an issue in itself. Would not recommend and won’t be back.”
