About Bunga Raya

Family-run and Malaysian, Bunga Raya cooks to order from a small kitchen on London Rd in Stockport. Duck leads the choices here, with crispy duck and a duck option on the set menu giving diners a clear way in, whether they order across the separate starters and mains or take the set route. Chicken dumplings arrive with a dipping sauce, and Malaysian Satay Sauce features on the short menu. Mains come with rice included, so plates arrive complete. Large bottled beers, including Singha and Tiger, sit alongside the food. The dining room is compact and plainly fitted out, and a step-free entrance means visitors with mobility needs can get in without stairs. Kitchen hours run in the evenings from Wednesday to Sunday, with the restaurant closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and reservations are recommended. Orders can also be packed for takeaway if you would rather eat at home.

Customer Review Summary

The crispy duck anchors most write-ups here, described by one diner as melting in the mouth and singled out again among the set menu dishes. Close behind, the chicken dumplings and their dipping sauce draw repeat praise, and prawn fritters and spring rolls also get named, one reviewer calling the spring rolls the best they have had, though that same visit required asking for a knife to eat them. Several stress that dishes arrive freshly made to order, and regulars of many years report never having had a bad meal. Value comes up almost as often as the cooking, alongside repeated mentions of friendly staff. The setting draws gentler comment, described as a little back room kitchen place with decor that gives no hint of the food. A Malaysian reviewer offers the main dissent, finding the flavours short of the authentic taste they expected, and one visitor advises bringing cash. Longtime customers keep returning to the owner's genuine smile at the door.

Great value and lovely food. Mains are all less than £10 including rice. Starters cost up to £6, but most are less. Drinks include a large bottle of Singha or Tiger for £4.50. We had starters and main for 5 and it cost just over £80. Excellent value and very friendly staff.

Really tasty, incredibly well valued. It is a little back room kitchen place but you cannot beat the value for money. Service is great… have and will come back again

Lovely family run Malaysian Restaurant offering consistently good Malaysian food at a reasonable price combined with a friendly service. We have been regulars at this restaurant for many years and we have never had a bad meal. The lady owner of the restaurant has a permanent but genuine smile on her face and we look forward to our visits to this restaurant.

As a Malaysian, I am very disappointed to say that their food lacks the authentic Malaysian taste some diners might expect. While the restaurant is praised for its traditional flavours and quality ingredients in the other reviews, the …

A true hidden gem. Spotted this place whilst working and decided to give it a go from the vibes alone. Never tried Malaysian food so this was a first. Truly blown away all round. Quality of the food is unbelievable and you can tell it’s cooked fresh. Staff are very friendly and make you feel welcome. Overall, I still can’t believe that a sharing starter for two, three main dishes and three large beers cost only £50! It’s a bit of a drive for me but this is certainly going to become our new regular. I’m now inspired to attempt some Malaysian home cooking after eating some of the tastiest food iv had in a while!

How this listing is sourced

Where the data comes from
Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
How it stays current
Listings are re-checked in batches against their public profile, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
How it is ranked
Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
