Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the friendly, welcoming staff, with several describing servers who were attentive and made families feel at home, and one noting a quiet corner table by the fireplace on request. Food draws close behind, with the steak, salmon fishcake, mixed grill, and a lemon cheesecake bomb named as highlights, plus a salted caramel sundae and chocolate brownie. Portions are called big and well presented, and a few describe the price as reasonable for a family meal. The caveat comes from one Saturday evening reviewer, who found the thicker chips under-cooked on all three meals, the lasagne unevenly flavoured, and the fish greasy and the gammon tough according to other reviews. That diner's bill came out higher than expected, with extra charges for a drink and lasagne, and was corrected with an apologetic server. The same reviewer still enjoyed the sourdough and cheesy garlic bread, and found service fast and drinks cold.

“Had a great meal with my family at the Shire Horse. The staff were fantastic, extremely friendly and helpful....made the evening a 10/10. Lilly was amazing, couldn't do enough to help us. We'll definitely be back and would recommend anyone else to give it a try. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”

“Looking for somewhere local different for a Saturday evening & had been a few years since last visit here. 1. Parking was fine, at the time of this visit, a sign in the bar mentioned cameras were turned off. 2. Stood in the main entrance for a moment, we ended up walking past someone at a desk who then asked if we wanted food. 3. Food service was fast despite being 7:30pm & fairer busy. 4. Some of the thicker chips on all three meals seemed to be under-cooked. 5. Lasagne, appeared not too saucy, but maybe how this is made here. Taste wasn’t continuous throughout. 6. Fish was reportedly greasy, found via reviews this “these are frozen’. 8. Gammon was reportedly also tough. 9. The bill was £30 more than what originally came, and had a further charge for extra drink & lasagna. This was resolved, and server was apologetic. The sourdough was something different & enjoyed the cheesy garlic bread. Service was quick, drinks were refreshing & cold. Personally at the price paid, not best value for money. Wouldn’t be a local establishment that I would have mind when having an evening out.”

“Really impressed with our visit. The atmosphere easily earns a full 5 stars—it's incredibly welcoming. The food was beautiful and packed with flavor, and the service was attentive and friendly. Definitely worth the £30–40 spend per person. Will be back!”

“Very nice place to have a family meal. Easy to locate and large car park. Outdoor dining available. Friendly staff and good food at a very reasonable price. 9 of us went there to celebrate my grandsons birthday and we all had a good time and a very enjoyable meal.”
