Customer Review Summary

Reviewers repeatedly describe the setting as grand and the service as warm, with several singling out the Sunday roast alongside the live saxophone as a recurring highlight. The pig cheeks and bream drew a mixed response, one diner finding the pork under-seasoned and the bream lacking crisp skin. Most call it a special-occasion spot on the pricier side.

“Setting lovely, restaurant has a beautiful grand look, yet dining experience felt really relaxed. Staff were lovely and helpful. Food was delicious, is on the pricier side so more for special occasions but will definitely visit again.”
  • Derrick Kerley
“Karen and Fernanda , Andre and Jao looked after us really well.”
  • Charlie Golf
“The Queens Hotel building is loveley and The 1865 restaurant is airy and bright. The plates are presented fantastically and the service was perfect. However, the grandeur of the location and the prices set made this meal become lackluster. The starter of hot honey and soy pig cheeks had no level of heat, and the seasoning did not penetrate the meat. The cheek was delicately tender, but the pork lacked a porkiness and the sauce was ok at best. I had fish of the day, fillet of bream. The bream wasn't particularly delicate. Nor the skin crisp. The side of crushed potato and crab was fine, but not fantastic. With the spinach & watercress purée being inoffensive but not moreish. I went on a Sunday afternoon, the banners on the outside of the hotel say Sunday roast and Jazz. The beer garden had a great buzz about it and looked fantastic. This meant I could hear the music from outside the entire time, having the gardens songs audible making it hard to properly relax into the 'Jazz' if at all. The staff were great, but I dont want to return here unless invited. Unless you want the pizza from the beer garden then your better of eating and the Briny. Please thank Fernanda for her service, she is fantastic.”
  • Sally Thomas

  • Ruth Asiimwe
“My family and I are very grateful for the service, it is exceptional. We would like to specifically thank Fernanda and Juão, this is not the first time we have been here and they are always fantastic.”
