About Algarve's Grill

Algarve's Grill is a Portuguese restaurant on Osborne Road in Southsea, serving a Mediterranean menu built around grilled fish, seafood and sharing plates. Tapas and paella sit alongside mains such as sea bass, steak and seafood skewers, with calamari and chicken wings among the starters. A seafood paella draws on fresh seafood, and Portuguese cake closes the meal. The restaurant takes walk-ins, with the team on hand to welcome guests who arrive without a booking. The room centres on the open grill and the Portuguese cooking that gives the place its focus, paired with the shared-table style the menu invites.

Most diners praise the seafood, with the paella and sea bass singled out as standouts, alongside attentive service and a welcoming atmosphere. One reviewer calls the calamari spot on. Other diners report a sharply different experience, describing reheated wings, a greasy undercooked burger, and flavourless lobster on a £100 bill, with one stating they would rather eat at McDonald's.

“Great place to meet with friends from IOM. We walked in, and welcomed. Food was great, i had a seafood skewer which was delicious, partner had a steak which he said was tasty and friends shared tapas.”

“Poor food! I like my food but I’d rather have Macdonalds and that’s saying something!”

“Visited for the first time tonight and will definitely be coming back, service was brilliant and friendly. Clean and welcoming decor and the food was amazing. Ate out other places this week and was disappointed by the the calamari so was keen to try it here and it was spot on !! I had Paella for main and whilst I normally prefer a dry rice this was beautiful with a great selection of fresh seafood. Perfect mid week date night , excited to make it a regular spot for our family as our youngest loves seafood”

“Had a very bad experience here on my visit on Monday. See what we bought below and what was wrong with it Starters Calamari: was plain, greasy Wings: probably some of the worst I’ve had, they felt like it was reheated and not fresh at all - flavour was ok but ruined by how old it was. Mains: Burger and half lobster, this was bad and just bad the burger was greasy, patty not cooked and lacked any sense of flavour whatsoever. The lobster was a disaster, no flavour and did not feel fresh at all. My wife had the lobster main and she had the same experience, lacked flavour and was really not fresh at all.l, desert was alright. The crazy part about all this is that not only was the food bad but I paid £100 for this! I don’t think I will ever return.”

“Absolutely fantastic Portuguese restaurant! The food was authentic, fresh, and full of flavour. Every dish was cooked to perfection, and the portions were generous. The staff were incredibly welcoming, attentive, and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, making it the perfect place for a family meal or a night out with friends. I highly recommend trying the grilled meats and seafood—they were outstanding. I’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommended🙌❤️”
