About COSMO

COSMO is a buffet restaurant at Unit WM24 in Southampton, built around an all-you-can-eat world buffet. Indian, Chinese, Italian and sushi stations sit alongside other international dishes, and guests serve themselves and refill their plates as often as they like. Empty plates are taken away, and guests pick up a clean one at the food stations. The dessert selection includes a chocolate fountain. Drinks are ordered at the bar and paid for separately from the meal, and refill drinks are available. Reservations are required, and tables run on a seating schedule with a time limit. The restaurant is often busy, with a wait at peak times.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often return to the variety across cuisines, with Chinese, Indian, Italian and sushi under one roof. Pork belly, mussels with Sichuan sauce, lamb, and beef with black bean sauce get named as standouts, and close behind come the desserts, including a chocolate fountain, and the refill drinks. Several describe friendly, patient staff and a clean, well laid out buffet, and some mention it as a place for family celebrations and group meals. Reviewers say a seating schedule applies and that the place is busy, with one noting a wait that turned out shorter than quoted. The main caveat is inconsistent quality: one reviewer finds some dishes good and others average, and another says the cheaper items are piled high while pricier options run out quickly. One reviewer felt rushed after being told on arrival that the table was limited to one hour, and described a staff response to a complaint about a dish as dismissive until the manager took the meal off the bill. One reviewer wished for more seafood.

“I just had my first visit and it was absolutely brilliant! The buffet offered a fantastic variety, and everything was fresh and tasty. I especially loved the seafood dishes and the Beef with Black Bean Sauce – so delicious! The service was spot on, and the whole place had a great atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back for more!”

“First time in Cosmos and it was brilliant. Loved the variety of food on offer. The little bits of pork belly were amazing along with the sushi and the Chinese selection. Next visit will be to try curries and the roast dinners. Good selection of desserts and variety of refill drinks. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Clearly a very popular place as there was a wait time. We were told a wait time of 20 minutes but sat down within 5 minutes. Lovely buffet with great prices”

“I have mixed feelings about this place. It's pretty much what you'd expect from an all-you-can-eat buffet: average-quality food presented well. The venue itself is attractive, clean, and the buffet layout is organised and easy to use. What really let the experience down was the service. Because the restaurant is so busy, I felt more like part of a production line than a valued customer. On arrival, we were immediately told we had only one hour and would need to vacate the table afterwards. That's not exactly the warm welcome you'd hope for when paying for a meal out. The food was okay, but nothing special. As is often the case with buffets, the cheaper items were piled high while the more expensive options seemed limited and quickly disappeared. The biggest issue came when I found a piece of plastic in my Thai sticky rice. I reported it to a member of staff and was shocked by the response: "Thanks for letting me know." That was it. No apology, no concern, no attempt to reassure me or investigate further. Finding a foreign object in food is a serious matter, and the lack of reaction was honestly more concerning than the plastic itself. After seeing my obvious disbelief, the manager eventually offered to remove my meal from the bill, but only after I challenged the response. A genuine apology and proactive handling of the situation would have gone a long way. Overall, I wouldn't return. The food quality doesn't justify the price, and the customer service was disappointing. The appeal seems to be the classic British temptation of "all you can eat" rather than genuinely good food or hospitality.”

“An ideal place to get together with family and friends to celebrate a special occasion. You need to book in advance as there's a seating schedule. The selection of food is varied and very tasty; Chinese, Indian, Italian, Sushi, and more. Help yourself and refill your plate as often as you like! There's a bar where you'll need to order and pay for drinks separately to your meal. There's a handy lift for disabled people, and whilst the toilets are up a few steps, there's a dedicated toilet for disabled people that's easily accessible. Don't be surprised when your empty plates are whisked away, just go to the food stations and fill a clean one. The staff are very attentive and friendly, and the place has a pleasant atmosphere.”

“Absolutely lovely self-service experience. Everything was clean, easy to use, and very well organized. The process was smooth from start to finish, and I really appreciated how convenient and efficient everything felt. It made the whole experience stress-free and comfortable. The staff were also friendly and helpful whenever needed, even though the system itself was mostly self-service. The environment was tidy and welcoming, and you can tell a lot of care goes into maintaining the place. I would definitely come back again and recommend it to others.”
