About The Merrie Lion
The Merrie Lion is a traditional pub and restaurant on Brook St in Southam, with a separate B&B block for overnight stays and breakfast included in the booking. The menu runs to 19 dishes, including Ham Hock And Tarragon Croquettes and Beer-Battered Fresh Haddock Or Scampi. Food is freshly cooked, so a wait is possible. Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the food, with burgers coming up repeatedly, including a cajun chicken burger and a burger with crispy fries, while scampi, a slow-roasted beef special and a steak grill night also get named. Close behind is the friendly staff, described as welcoming, chatty and efficient, and the pub's welcome for dogs inside and in the beer garden. Several guests who stayed over describe spacious, well kept rooms separate from the pub, along with a fantastic breakfast and dinner. Beer and real ales draw praise, including a local Napton Lock Ale, and one visitor liked the raspberry creme brulee and chocolate mousse. On the downside, one reviewer says the pub is so busy with local farmers that you cannot hear yourself think, and another notes a wait because everything is freshly cooked and says booking a table is needed. One reviewer recalls a team member finishing her shift and coming over to say goodbye to a dog.

“Nice pub, good food and beers and friendly staff. We stayed over and took part in the pub quiz. Only 4 stars for atmosphere as if the local farmers are in, you can't hear yourself think 🤣”

“Nosh-tastic! We all had delish burgers, cajon chicken was my choice and particularly good. A return visit will happen in due course.”

“My finance and I stayed here for 2 nights to attend a wedding at a nearby venue. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, we found the rooms to be very spacious and well kept, and the food (breakfast and dinner) was fantastic. If we’re in this neck of the woods again we would 100% come back to the Merrie Lion.”
- Carole Barker
“Had a lovely meal, bit of a wait as all food freshly cooked but we'll worth the wait, for a Thursday lunchtime the pub was very busy, you really need to book a table in advance. Dogs welcome inside and in the garden. Staff very friendly, chatty, polite and efficient nothing was to much trouble.”

“Very generous portions and excellent food. Everything was homemade or local as was perfectly cooked. Friendly attentive staff and made to feel very welcome. Cannot fault the place. Would recommend to anyone. Will be back as soon as possible”
