About Namaste Indian Restaurant & Kings Prosecco Lounge

Namaste Indian Restaurant & Kings Prosecco Lounge is an Indian restaurant at 389 King George Rd in South Shields, converted from the former White Ensign pub. The conversion added a prosecco lounge and cocktail bar, a beer garden and live music, so the venue has space for dining, drinks and entertainment. The menu is modern Indian, with a tapas section of big portions and a set meal. Dishes include lamb mirchi, Murg Biryani and seabass with king prawns. Two statues dressed in a saree and a sherwani stand at the entrance, and light Bollywood music plays in the background. The venue also holds a quiz night.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often praise the curries, naming a seabass and king prawn dish in a tamarind, coconut and curry leaf sauce, dhansak, tikka masala, lamb mirchi, chicken korai and vindaloo. Close behind are generous portions, from the tapas menu to the set meal, which left several reviewers stuffed, along with friendly staff and an owner described as genuine and great craic. A few also mention Bollywood background music, a quiz night and good value. The recurring complaint is feeling rushed. One party says starters arrived within minutes of the drinks, plates were cleared immediately, the bill appeared and they were asked to leave the table on a Friday night. A New Year's Eve family describes poppadoms and starters swiped away mid-conversation. That same family found the mains bland, the foil-wrapped modern chicken biryani disappointing and the keema naan without meat. One reviewer found the atmosphere loud, and another notes the lounge drink offers do not apply in the restaurant. Even the rushed Friday party were given trays to take their leftovers home.

“Wow! Modern Indian restaurant with phenomenal food! We came on a busy sat evening and I'm glad we booked. I ordered the seabass with king prawns, the sauce was amazing, lightly spiced with tamarind, coconut and curry leaves, great flavours. My husband had the dhansak and daughter the tikka massalla, all dishes were amazing. We really enjoyed it. I would definitely come back.”

“Being a ‘stuck up Cleadonite I’ve always been a loyal customer of the Eastern Touch, however after a few bad meals we decided to give this place a try, and honestly I wish I had done so years ago. The owner is an absolute character, great craic and very genuine, you can tell he loves what he does! And the food was excellent, full of flavour, not oily or greasy at all, and decent sized portions! I’ve had a few take aways from here now and they’ve all been genuinely excellent. I’m looking forward to eating on the restaurant soon!”

“Didn't go here for the food, although it did smell absolutely fabulous. I only went for the quiz. Apparently, this week's questions were much harder than usual. I still managed to answer several questions so that the team did much better than normal. It was a great night with a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I would thoughley recommend it.”

Highlights

“Modern Indian cuisine with an exclusive edge in South Shields. Eat - Drink - Dance - Beer Garden - Live Music Namaste was formally known as the White ensign pub. From our experience in our four top restaurants around Sunderland and South Shields we decided to create a venue like no other. The old site has been transformed in to an exclusive Indian restaurant, which also includes a prosecco lounge & cocktail bar. There is no other place like this in South Shields. Located on the border between the seaside town and Sunderland, Namaste is one of a kind. Whether it's our live music, phenomenal food or classy cocktails, you know that you can always have a brilliant night away from it all.”
