About Clock Tower Fish 'n' Chips

Fish and chips with cod anchors the order at Clock Tower Fish 'n' Chips, a chip shop on the Skegness strip, across the road from the other large fish and chip shops and with a restaurant next door. Frying happens once the order is placed rather than holding food under a hot lamp. Alongside the fish, the counter turns out sausage and chips in jumbo and battered forms, with curry sauce or gravy on the side and chips sold in portions up to a large. There is no need to book, since orders are taken at the counter as you arrive. Diners can sit in, and takeaway portions go out wrapped in paper and a bag for anyone eating along the seafront or back at home. Outdoor seats suit eating in the open air, high chairs make room for families with young children, and a step-free entrance serves visitors with mobility needs. The doors open daily.

Customer Review Summary

Cod and chips cooked fresh to order dominates what reviewers describe here, and opinion splits sharply on how it lands. Those who leave happy report fish that arrived white and flaky inside crisp golden batter, hand-cut chips, and curry sauce that one calls the best they have had; others single out the fish bites, the sausage and chips with gravy, and the battered Mars bars, and several mention friendly service and a family run feel. An equally vocal group reports the opposite: cod arriving undercooked, chips still hard or tasting stale and reheated, a scampi portion of five small pieces, missing items including a curry sauce that never appeared, and one customer overcharged. A parent describes tasteless kids' meals alongside a lamb doner containing small pieces of bone, with no acknowledgement from the shopkeeper, and one reviewer says the food left them feeling sick. Several accounts end the same way, with paper and bags dripping in grease and stuck to the food.

“Genuinely the best fish and chips with curry sauce I've ever had. 1000% recommend. It was cooked to perfection and so flavourful. Too bad I live too far to buy it regularly 💔”

“Bad reviews were correct. Food took ages, then came back and some of the order was missing. Scampi potion is 5 tiny pieces. Cod wasn’t cooked - literally worst fish and chips I’ve had - just go somewhere else.”
  • John B.
“Had fish bites and chips for. £6.99. Four really nice sized pieces of Cod which were soft, white and flakes inside crisp golden batter with a good portion of hand-cut chips. This was all cooked fresh 5here and then. Friendly staff.”

“By far worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. Soggy, soaked, stodgy, undercooked, overcooked, stale and reheated. Beware, recently changed hands, disregard any old, good reviews. Chips, smelt, looked and tasted old, stale, re heated, overcooked, bland and outright disgusting. Just awful in every way. Fish… horrendous batter, flat, thick, uncooked, yellow, sticky, nothing like a proper battered cod from a good chip shop. To top it off, as per their listing cod and chips is meant to come with curry sauce, gravy or mushy peas. I selected curry sauce, nowhere to be seen. Bag and paper was absolutely soaked in grease and all stuck to food. Not in a box like other reviews. As I said, recently changed hands, food and presentation is now completely different. Over half went in bin. Avoid.”

“Average chippy, food was fine... we had large chips and jumbo sausages. They over charged us 1£ but I didn't mind that since reviews were generally good Other reviews probably screwed our expectations by saying the portions were huge but compared to my local one it barely eno for 2 people. The meal was probably a 3.5 / 5 whicj was fine but since I was lead there based off other reviews I felt a bit disappointed”
