Customer Review Summary
Breakfast and brunch draw the most praise at Number Four, with reviewers singling out eggs Florentine, poached eggs and avocado on sourdough toast, and a fried egg on ham, egg and chips that one diner said was elevated. Close behind, a croissant with jam and butter, a tender tomahawk steak with crunchy chips, and a chai latte earn mentions. Reviewers also describe friendly staff, natural light, a warm atmosphere, and a kid's menu. The main complaint is a recent decline in value. One reviewer says a full English arrived with one sausage, one small burnt piece of bacon and about one egg's worth of scrambled egg, while another found a veggie full English with a burst poached egg, about four spinach leaves and two dry halloumi sticks. Both felt the price no longer fit. Service draws mixed reports: one diner describes food slapped down, no eye contact and a waitress yawning loudly, and another notes slow service on a quiet day. Others call the team friendly and efficient. One reviewer also mentions seeing a staff member rub his nose while holding cutlery.

“Looking at previous reviews of this place from 6 months ago (with photos), the breakfast is significantly smaller than it was then. My son had a full English today and the portions were tiny. It had one sausage, one piece of small burnt bacon and the scrambled egg was the equivalent of one egg! People were complaining six months ago about portion sizes and that's when there were 2 of everything so I wouldn't go here if you are hungry and for £15 its very expensive (it also says its £12.50 on their current menu online and £15 for doubling up on the meat, but we paid £15 for one of each item. I get that restaurants have got it tough lately but to half your portions sizes and put your prices up is just too much to expect people to pay for. I had the special that was on the menu which was Taco's they were nice, but again two tacos for £15 is crazy expensive. The owners never seem to address any reviews here which doesn't give a good impression of them, surely you should be paying attention to what your customers have to say.”

“We have visited no 4 Butcher Row many times, but after today I’m not sure I’ll return. The food was lovely & prompt but the service was very lack lustre. There was no eye contact, no conversation, no thanks, all in all pretty dreadful. The cutlery & food was slapped down on the table. No engagement with the customer whatsoever. The food was very tasty however. My friend asked for the bill whilst I was visiting the toilet. The waitress hovered expecting payment before I returned. My friend said we needed to look at the bill. The waitress was straight back before we had time to digest it. She then loudly yawned. It’s a good job a service charge was not mandatory because we wouldn’t have paid. Such a shame. We’ve previously had lovely service but such a bad attitude today! In addition I did notice a gentleman ( who was very pleasant) rubbing his nose as he had the cutlery in his hand.”

“I’ve been to this place a good few times over the years and this visit was quite disappointing. Came here for brunch (since they’re renowned for it) and ordered a veggie full English. The platter came with one of the poached eggs already bursted, up to 4 leaves of spinach when it should’ve been a main feature from the description on the menu, 2x dry halloumi sticks (again, supposedly a main feature), and an unevenly browned toast that injured the inside of my mouth when I attempted to eat it. Service was quite slow on top of that as well despite it not being too busy. The atmosphere is fine and hasn’t changed much from when I knew it in the past, but the food seems to have declined in quality and standard and it no longer justifies the price (or the hype) nowadays.”

“Number Four, Butchers Row in Shrewsbury offers delicious breakfasts, brunch and lunch. Great food served by a friendly and efficient team. I had a croissant with jam and butter to start which was simply scummy. To follow, poached eggs, fresh avocado on sourdough toast, again delicious. Prices are very reasonable for the centre and it is now another one of my go to favourites.”

“There's a Warm atmosphere in number 4 butcher row. Compliments to the staff aswell for giving such detailed customer service in such a way that makes people want to come back to the restaurant. It has a calm relaxing scenery added in with music that plays thats not too loud that you can't hear each other and not to quiet to not enjoy the music itself. The staff give fluid yet straight forward answers to the queries you may have about the menu or the drinks. But I will be back again because of all that and to maybe try some food whilst I'm at it since I wasn't able to because of the time.”
