Quick info
About Coleham Fish Bar
The same family has run Coleham Fish Bar since the late 1980s, and it remains a fish and chips takeaway on Longden Coleham in Shrewsbury. Fish is cooked fresh to order, so there can be a wait for it after a busy stretch. Chip portions run generous, and even a small portion has been enough to feed two. Orders are placed at the counter on a walk-in basis, with no reservations taken, which suits people stopping in while walking around the city. It opens Monday to Saturday and closes on Sundays.

Customer Review Summary
Generous chip portions are what reviewers raise most, with several saying a small serves two people and describing the chips as just the way they like them. Close behind is the friendly, family run feel, with reviewers noting welcoming staff, one owner who still served a short-changed pair a full bag of chips, and a sit down area. Fish gets fresh cooking, though one reviewer says the wait can stretch when it is busy. Others mention a mini fish with a scallop or with curry or mushy peas for a pre match meal, and a visitor praises sizeable portions with cups of tea. The chips also draw the sharpest complaints. One reviewer found them kept hot too long after fresh fish, another called them small, greasy and bitter near closing time, and a third called them the worst in a while, adding that the premises looked aged with little choice cooked. One reviewer was put off by the owner's face shield worn up during Covid, and another says it never seems to be open despite being listed so. A reviewer also mentions the shop is occasionally hit by flooding, and another highlights its consistent five star food standards rating.

“The chips are rubbish. Small and greasey with a bitter after taste. Maybe it was because it was near closing time. But even so..”

“I'm a regular at this place and truly recommend this establishment. This family has run this chip shop since the late 1980s and the food, the service and the atmosphere here is excellent. Pre match Mini Fish and a scallop £5 or get a mini fish, chips and Curry/Mushy Peas £6.75p The only downside is that the owner supports Arsenal 🤣 Up the Shrews”

“Always generous with their chips so only need a small portion. Sometimes have to wait a little for fish if been busy but worth the wait. Friendly family run business. Sit down area available. Occasionally been hit by flooding.”

“I'm afraid my visit wasn't a good one, premises, looked aged, not much choices of food cooked. My chips were probably the worst I have had, for a while. 🥲 …”
