About La Piazzetta
Italian cooking is the focus at La Piazzetta, a restaurant at 14 The Sq in Shrewsbury. The menu pairs pizza with pasta dishes, including Spaghetti Carbonara, and a lobster ravioli runs as a nightly special. Meals can start with focaccia served with dipping oil and balsamic vinegar, and a dessert list closes the menu. Dogs are welcome, so diners can bring a pet along to the table. Tables sit close together in the dining room.

Customer Review Summary
The setting and atmosphere draw the most consistent praise. Reviewers call the decor lovely and the surroundings nice, and several describe the staff as polite. The food divides opinion. Diners who enjoyed it point to the spaghetti carbonara and chicken risotto, and others call the meal tasty and fairly priced. Others found the focaccia bland and dry even with dipping oil, the tiramisu fresh but too sweet, and the seabass lacking a sauce. Slow service is the recurring complaint. One table was forgotten after ordering and was only checked on by a different waitress, another waited a long stretch between starter and main when the room wasn't busy, and a third said one waitress needed nudging. One reviewer found the carbonara sauce oily and the pizza doughy, and noticed a service charge only after leaving. One lunch guest's chicken salad arrived charred and dry, and they kept quiet rather than send it back.

“We came for lunch today. Atmosphere was great and service was good. We were with relatives who we only meet once a year. I think everyone enjoyed their meal. But my chicken salad was not good, simply because the chicken was charred black bunrt and extremely dry. I wanted to send it back but I didn't want to disrupt our pleasant get togerther.”

“We were shown to our table, and our orders were taken, and then it seems we had been forgotten about. We ordered the foccaia bread to start so the preparation time was minimal however it was 30 minutes before this was served, it lacked flavour and there was not enough dipping oil. We asked how long our mains would be and we were told 10 minutes. About 10 mins later a different waitress came and asked if we had been served and we asked again where our food was. The waitress apologised and said she would find out, she came back and said it would be 10-20mins, and after waiting roughly another half an hr, our carbonara and pizza was served. Neither should have taken this long. The carbonara sauce was oily and my pizza was very stodgy and doughy and was only cooked properly around the edges, it was not a thin stone baked base that I would have expected from an italian food place. It was also only about half the size of what I would call a standard sized pizza, but I only managed to eat about a 1/4 of it. And there was the hidden 8% service charge which I hadn't realised until we had left. All in all a dissapointing experience, below average food and sub standard service. I will say the surroundings are nice and the layout is good, although we had asked to sit at a different table but we were told that they couldn't move us, Ive no idea why as there were plenty of empty seats. Its a nice looking restaurant and it has quite a varied small menu but offered a decent choice. I dont know why we had such a bad experience today with all the glowing reviews but I wouldnt make a point of returning.”
