About Avatar
On Mardol in Shrewsbury, Avatar is an Indian restaurant at number 49 serving both Indian and Nepalese cooking. The menu puts Nepali spinach pork alongside tandoori steak, so diners can choose between dishes from each tradition. Samosa chaat is one of the starters. Vegetarian and vegan options also sit on the menu, which gives mixed tables more to choose from. The restaurant is new and larger than before, with enough space for big groups. Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the pork dishes, naming the Nepali spinach pork, a pork belly and spinach curry, and a pork starter served with pitta and salad. Close behind are the biryani, samosa chaat, tandoori paneer and poppadoms with tikka onions, while others praise the tandoori steak and chicken sashlik. Diners describe an interesting menu with an innovative twist on Indian and Nepalese cooking, and a couple mention good vegetarian and vegan options. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and attentive, and a group of ten found the service appropriately quick. Regulars welcome the new, more spacious room. The main complaint comes from one birthday diner, who describes the room growing louder with children, mains arriving while starters were unfinished, about five dishes squeezed onto the table, chewy and overcooked chicken, and a bill presented the moment they asked, leaving the evening feeling hurried. Another reviewer says the owner always remembers them and treats them like family.

“We ate here this week on our first ever visit to Shrewsbury. We were drawn in because it looked busy and welcoming and, unlike many restaurants, it was open on a Monday night. We also like Nepalese and Indian food, of course! The food was really delicious, some of the best we've had, and we especially enjoyed samosa chaat and the Nepali spinach pork. It's a really nice space with friendly staff and the service was great.”

“Had our 1st meal at Avatar last night. The food was amazing and tasted out of this world. The chicken and lamb were cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. The sauces were thick and full of flavour and spiced to perfection. The atmosphere was relaxed and everyone appeared to be having a good time. Can't fault the staff. They are a credit to Susant they're so polite and welcoming, very attentive. If you are in Shrewsbury living or visiting then Avatar is worth a visit. We will definitely be returning.”

“Loving the new Restaurant. Stylish, comfortable and still great food. It has occupied the top position for an Indian-style restaurant in Shrewsbury since it opened and the meals we enjoyed last night would be hard to match. It had become difficult to take groups to the old one because of the size restrictions of the original restaurant, the new one is very spacious so look forward to many more visits.”

“Unfortunately we didn't have the same experience as others have posted about,it was the new restaurant we tried it's beautiful and initially lovely staff and atmosphere. However this did not last they took are order and the starter arrived the restaurant was getting fuller and louder with very loud children, so the atmosphere changed, the starter was presented beautifully we were saying this was lovely then before we had finished the young lady then bought out the mains ,about 5dishes and nowhere to put them .This however didn't stop her from squeezing everything on the table while we were still eating our starter!!!!! We rushed this down as there was no apology or even attempt to return it to the kitchen, the chicken in both dishes was very chewy and over cooked, the noise was getting louder and no sooner had we finished it was cleared .we asked for the bill which was immediately presented.I understand they were busy, not when we arrived however and we had booked we were also shown lots of tables to choose from it was all so very nice at first to be totally ruined by the noise and more to the point the speed.we were in had a drink and 2courses paid and left in 1 hour .This was my birthday treat we were hoping to make more of a night of it I felt like if been to macdonalds”
