About Itadakizen
Itadakizen is a Japanese restaurant in Shrewsbury, at 7-10 Fish St, serving an entirely vegan menu. The kitchen cooks ramen, including a miso ramen, alongside a buddha bowl and a bento box whose accompaniments change. Sushi is not on the menu, so the focus stays on those hot dishes and set plates. The dining room is small, with fewer than 20 covers, which suits a quiet meal for a few people at a time. To drink, the restaurant pours teas and soft drinks, including houji tea.

Ramen draws the most mentions, with reviewers describing the miso ramen as nourishing and satisfying, alongside a Buddha bowl and a bento box one diner returned for. Vegan Japanese food, fresh flavours and attentive service recur. One reviewer found the white lighting cold, another noted a single server stretched when busy, and one expected sushi, which is not served. A reviewer suggests reserving for the small room.

“Delicious food, intimate setting. Waitresses were hospitable. One drawback was the very white lighting which made it feel a bit cold”

“Came for dinner recently and this really is a special place. The interior is beautiful and the service is just exceptional. The staff were so incredibly warm, welcoming and attentive. The food was delicious and tasted so fresh! Also, the drinks were notably lovely - we tried some teas and soft drinks and they were gorgeous. All round a wonderful experience and somewhere not to miss in Shrewsbury. We will definitely be back!”

“Excellent vegan Japanese food. I’m neither vegetarian nor vegan, but thoroughly enjoyed my meal (bento box, miso soup, houji tea, and a matcha ice muffin sandwich). I lived in Tokyo for almost 10 years, and it was genuinely a pleasure to eat some *reasonably priced* food in the UK that was recognisable as Japanese cuisine. The bento box was particularly enjoyable - so much so I returned a couple of weeks later for another one. It was great to find on my second visit that the accompaniments in the bento box had changed from my previous visit. I will definitely be continuing to return when I am next in Shrewsbury. Reservation highly recommended as there are less than 20 covers in this small restaurant. Service was excellent, though you may have to be a little patient with one server to cover the whole restaurant when they are busy.”
