Quick info
About The Black Horse Inn
The Black Horse Inn is a village pub on Station Rd in Shipston On Stour, serving Thai food alongside real ales, local lager and ciders. The kitchen handles the Thai dishes while the bar covers the drinks, so one visit can combine a meal with a drink from the same building. A garden sits at the rear of the pub, and there is a separate area at the front as well. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring their pets along.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return to the Thai food, described as authentic, restaurant quality and served takeaway style, which diners eat in the beer garden or at the picnic benches outside, often with a pint. Close behind is the friendly service, with the bar staff and locals repeatedly called friendly, and the pub described as very dog friendly. The drinks draw praise too, including real ales, local lager, good beers and good cider. Others mention a bike meet with barbecue hot dogs and burgers, and a local cat in the garden. One reviewer notes the pub now serves only Thai food and that it was takeaway only at the time, while another says the Thai has since closed. The sharpest complaint comes from one family with two young children, who say they were told children are not welcome after 8pm, that this is not published on the website or in the pub, and that they were hurried to finish their food and drinks and effectively asked to leave. The same reviewer calls the food mediocre. Another family, celebrating a son starting university, describes a tasty, well presented meal.

“The Black Horse now serves Thai food - Menu taken from FB. It no longer serves any of the other menus listed here. Currently takeaway only, but lots of picnic benches outside you can eat on”

“Thai food at this pub was awesome! Takeaways style but restaurant quality food. And can enjoy this in the beer garden with a pint too.”

“This is by far the worst pubs I have been in. Not only is the food mediocre but the hospitality is beyond questionable. We have two young children and we were told that children are not welcome on the premises after 20:00. This is not published either on their website or in the pub itself. We were hurried to finish our food and drinks and effectively asked to leave. The bar man stressed this was not personal due to the rugby players due to enter their establishment in the coming hour. Yet I went to watch the rugby match which finished 5 hours prior…. Coincidence. Yet they were happy to take money off me and my family all afternoon for drinks etc but when approaching 8pm my children were all of a sudden causing unrest and being disruptive. This is a place I will not be returning to and would highly recommend people with children to avoid. You will be ushered out as soon as 8pm is looming closer. Absolutely revolting behaviour by the staff. You should be utterly ashamed of yourselves. Disgusting!!!!!”
