Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the food, with the BBQ lunch drawing the most specific detail: prawn skewers, lamb kebab and beef kofta, plus unlimited sides including homemade tzatziki, rice and warm pitta. Close behind are the Sunday beef, described as a mini joint rather than thin slices, the trio of meats roast, the burger, the curry and salads, and the calamari. Others mention a steak night set menu and a classic afternoon tea. Several say the kitchen handled dietary needs well, including gluten and dairy free choices and a pescatarian guest. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and attentive, and walk-ins without a booking were fitted in.

“We came for the classic afternoon tea, it was delicious and we both really enjoyed it! One of our group was pescatarian and they accommodated this well, with lovely fish elements! The staff were very friendly and helpful - thanks for a lovely afternoon tea ☺️”

“A Wonderful Family Experience We visited The George as a family group and were pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. This is definitely not your typical English pub! The menu offers a fantastic variety of international dishes, and everything we tried was delicious. We particularly loved the curry and the salads. The portions were very generous, the food tasted fresh, and everything was beautifully presented. The service was excellent from start to finish — friendly, attentive and genuinely welcoming. The atmosphere was lovely, the prices were very reasonable, and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. Everything came together to make it a fantastic dining experience. 100% repeatable and 100% recommended! We will definitely be coming back. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐”

“We booked The George at Kilsby for a family birthday celebration. Two of our party are intolerant to various food groups, making menu choices quite challenging for them. We were assured when booking that this wouldn't be a problem and that they could be well catered for. Happily, that's exactly how it was on the evening. Gluten and dairy free options were offered to one guest and the chef was able to tweak the menu to cater for the other guest who needed to avoid potatoes, tomatoes, onions and peppers. The rest of the group enjoyed burgers, bbq meat and fish, cod and prawn curry plus an assortment of starters. A few of us even managed to eat a dessert. Definitely ask about the ones that are produced in house. The ones that we tried were excellent. Service was high standard as usual.”

“Our first few visits to this pub were very enjoyable, but unfortunately the standard of service began to decline during 2025. Last year I booked the garden room for my mum's birthday for a party of nine, and the experience was extremely disappointing. We faced long waits for our initial drinks and food, empty glasses and plates were left on the table for more than 40 minutes, and nobody even asked whether we would like to see the dessert menu. To their credit, the restaurant acknowledged the poor service and offered either 25% off the entire bill or 50% off the food on a future visit as a goodwill gesture. However, the experience had been so disappointing that we chose not to return. Recently we decided to give The George another chance. I booked a table for 12 people in the garden room through the website. Naturally, if the website allows you to book the garden room, you would expect that to be where your party will be seated. Three hours prior to the meal time I received a phone call informing me that the garden room is closed. Bear in mind this gave me little time to book another restaurant. This was incredibly disappointing and suggests a lack of communication between the booking system and the restaurant. Sadly, this doesn't appear to be an isolated incident. Friends of mine booked a table a few weekends ago, only to receive a phone call on the day of their reservation telling them it had been cancelled because of a private event. These repeated issues have left us with very little confidence in booking here again, which is a shame because we genuinely enjoyed our early visits.”

“Stopped by on a road trip without booking they were willing to fit us in for food. They had the best calamari that either me or my husband had tasted (and we eat a lot of calamari). They were doing a steak night set menu which was delicious. Staff were very friendly. I'd highly recommend going. There seemed to be a lot of friendly regulars which is always a great sign. Exceptional value for money!!”
